Did you know that a SEC study plan starts with a document check, not a pile of practice papers? Confirm each subject’s exact title, G1, G2 or G3 level, syllabus code and examination year. Then check the official SEAB syllabus for content, assessment objectives and components. The SEC examinations begin in 2027; use the syllabus for your actual examination year, especially if you are currently in a younger cohort.
Turn each requirement into something you can do: interpret a text, construct a written response, solve and check a problem, explain evidence, carry out a taught practical task or develop coursework. Choose the action that matches the subject and component. G1, G2 and G3 are subject levels; PG1, PG2 and PG3 are Posting Groups, so your study plan should follow your confirmed subject combination.
Today, make a four-column plan: requirement, practice task, current evidence and next improvement. Start with one important weak link, obtain feedback and try fresh work later. This guide covers study methods across subject families and routes you to every official G-level syllabus list; it does not claim that every subject is offered at every level or that every school offers the entire SEAB catalogue.

Use the official school-candidate directory and select the relevant G-level list. Find the exact subject name and open its syllabus. Do not rely solely on a textbook cover, an old examination label or a code remembered from a different cohort.
The 2027 lists include English Language K100, K200 and K300 and Mathematics K110, K210 and K310 at G1, G2 and G3 respectively. Additional Mathematics is listed at G2 as K232 and at G3 as K341; there is no G1 Additional Mathematics entry in the 2027 school-candidate G1 list.
Check the complete document for the subject you actually take. Different language offerings, combined subject options, practical components and coursework can change what preparation is needed. School candidates and private candidates also have separate directories.
Read to understand purpose, meaning and evidence. Write to meet the specific task and audience. Listen and speak through appropriate material and feedback. Use the components in the relevant syllabus rather than assuming a common paper structure across levels or languages.
For comprehension, identify what the question demands before selecting evidence. For writing, plan the response, draft, assess it against the task and revise a specific weakness. For oral work, practise responding to the actual prompt and follow-up questions rather than relying on a memorised speech.
Mother Tongue, Higher Mother Tongue, approved non-Tamil Indian languages, special programmes and foreign or third languages need their own verified syllabus where applicable. Similar learning routines can support them, but language-specific teaching and course requirements remain essential.
Connect definitions, representations, procedures and applications. A formula is useful when you know when it applies, what each quantity means and how to check the result. Practise selecting a method on unfamiliar but in-scope questions.
Use worked examples actively. Explain why each step is valid, cover the solution and reconstruct it, then attempt a changed problem. If you cannot begin independently, identify whether the missing piece is a concept, algebraic fluency, interpretation or method selection.
Additional Mathematics requires its own G2 or G3 syllabus map. Do not assume that every G3 topic appears in G2 or that taking G1 Mathematics creates a G1 A-Math examination pathway. Follow the school’s confirmed combination and the official subject list.
Match the exact course. G1 Science, combined Science combinations and separate G3 sciences are different entries, not interchangeable labels. The syllabus determines which concepts, representations and assessed components belong in the plan.
Practise explaining a result with a relevant concept and evidence. In calculation tasks, define quantities and units. In data tasks, interpret the information before drawing a conclusion. In investigations, connect variables, measurement and the question being tested.
Where practical work is assessed, written revision does not replace supervised practice of the required skills. Use school instruction for apparatus, procedures and safety. A practical task can reveal a different learning gap from a theory question on the same topic.
History requires more than remembering events: practise using knowledge and sources to construct supported answers as required by the course. Geography requires interpreting representations and explaining relationships using suitable examples. Social Studies involves careful use of evidence and relevant understanding.
For Literature, develop an interpretation grounded in the prescribed text and the task. Know important passages, but practise explaining how textual choices support the argument. Language-specific Literature courses need the correct texts and syllabus.
Check whether the student takes a standalone subject or a Humanities combination, and identify all required components. Do not assume that every lower-secondary subject name corresponds to a separate SEC examination at every G level.
SECTION 6 OF 9
How do Computing, business and applied subjects need different practice?
For Computing, turn understanding into tracing, designing, implementing or testing as the syllabus requires. Explain what a procedure should do and compare that with what it actually does. Knowing terminology alone does not show that a solution works.
For Principles of Accounts, explain the transaction and its treatment before practising procedures and checking the records. For Business, Economics and Elements of Business Skills, use the concepts and task formats specified by the actual course rather than treating the subjects as one generic business paper.
Applied offerings in the official lists include areas such as Mobile Robotics, Smart Electrical Technology, Retail Operations, Biotechnology, Design Studies and Electronics. Availability is subject to the relevant school and course conditions. Use the correct specification and supervised task feedback; this is a learning route, not a claim that eduKate offers tuition in all these subjects.
Art, Higher Art, Music, Higher Music and Drama can require making, performing, analysing or developing work rather than only recalling notes. Check the components and prepare a realistic sequence of practice, feedback and revision.
Design and Technology and Nutrition and Food Science need the relevant knowledge and the practical or coursework processes specified by their syllabuses. Record decisions and feedback where appropriate. Exercise and Sports Science also needs preparation matched to its actual assessed demands.
Do not leave a long project until the final revision week. Use school milestones and component deadlines. Practical and creative learning deserves planned time in the same way that a Mathematics paper or language component does.
Give each subject one clear priority and a task that will test it. Add maintenance checks for secure knowledge, component practice where needed and time to use feedback. Decide what to do from the evidence, not simply from which book remains unfinished.
For example, Monday might repair a Mathematics interpretation gap; Tuesday might revise one English response; another session might practise a taught Science data task. Coursework and oral practice should have their own places rather than being squeezed into leftover time.
Return to repaired skills later and use fresh work. If a task repeatedly fails, reduce it to the missing prerequisite or ask the teacher for a diagnostic example. In 3-pax tuition, close attention should make the next learning action clearer; subject availability and teaching fit still need confirmation.
Ask whether you can work accurately on taught material, explain important decisions, handle a changed question and manage the conditions of the required component. Check coverage against the syllabus, but distinguish ‘I have seen it’ from ‘I can do it.’
Use the official G1, G2 and G3 lists below as the complete catalogue routes, including specialist language and applied options. This article groups study methods for readability; the official documents settle the actual subject requirements.
Do all subjects exist at G1, G2 and G3? No. Check the relevant list. Will harder practice automatically raise my level? No. Subject-level decisions follow school processes. What should I do first? Confirm your course details, identify one important gap and choose a task that can show whether the repair works.
