Transport Sengkang | Sengkang Transport Options to Changi Airport by MRT, Bus 110 and Taxi

Travelling from Sengkang to Changi Airport? The dependable rail route is Sengkang MRT (NE16) → Little India (NE7/DT12) → Expo (DT35/CG1) → Changi Airport (CG2). A different choice is public bus 110, which runs to the airport from Buangkok Bus Interchange, not Sengkang Bus Interchange. Taxis and private-hire cars are practical when there is heavy luggage, a tight flight check-in window or a journey outside normal public-transport hours.

This Sengkang airport transport guide covers what to board, where to change, which airport terminals are reached, how to get to bus 110, what to check before an early flight and what to do on the return journey. It is useful for residents of Compassvale, Rivervale, Anchorvale, Fernvale and the Buangkok area; the best first step depends on the exact HDB block or address.

Quick answer: use MRT/LRT for a predictable rail journey within operating hours; consider bus 110 if the boarding stop is conveniently near your home and you want to reach a terminal by bus; consider a metered taxi or booked car when public transport would risk a missed flight. Confirm live service, fare and terminal details through the operator links below. Reviewed 6 November 2026.

Option 1 — Sengkang MRT to Changi Airport: the practical rail route

  1. 1. Start at Sengkang MRT (NE16). If arriving by Sengkang LRT, follow the MRT transfer signs inside the Sengkang integrated station.
  2. 2. Take the North East Line towards HarbourFront. Alight at Little India (NE7/DT12). Do not take the train towards Punggol Coast.
  3. 3. Change to the Downtown Line towards Expo. Travel to Expo (DT35/CG1). Follow signs for the Changi Airport train connection; make sure you change to the airport-bound branch.
  4. 4. Ride to Changi Airport (CG2). Check the terminal you require before leaving the rail station. The airport MRT station has direct connections to Terminals 2 and 3.
  5. 5. If going to Terminal 1 or Terminal 4, follow the airport’s terminal transfer signs. For Terminal 4, check the airport’s shuttle transfer information rather than assuming the MRT station is inside T4.

The rail route involves two train changes after boarding at Sengkang: one at Little India and one at Expo. That is a description of the route, not a guaranteed fastest journey for every home. The LRT ride, walk from your block, changing platforms, peak-hour crowding and getting from the airport MRT station to your airline’s terminal all take additional time.

Changi Airport also describes an alternative rail approach through Tanah Merah on the East West Line. That may fit some starting points or an incident affecting the Downtown Line. Do not assume changing routes mid-journey will save time: check the current network and destination before committing to the alternative.

What if you are starting from an LRT station?

The Sengkang LRT East and West Loops are neighbourhood collection systems, not direct lines to the airport. Ride the correct direction back to Sengkang Town Centre (STC), then move to the North East Line. A resident near Rumbia, Bakau, Kangkar or Ranggung may have a different boarding platform and journey direction from someone near Farmway, Kupang or Fernvale. Choose the shorter permitted loop direction from the live boards instead of following yesterday’s routine.

Sengkang West Inner Loop regular services resumed on 4 October 2026 after track works. This supersedes older articles that still describe an ongoing April–October closure. See LTA’s 2 October 2026 resumption notice.

Option 2 — Bus 110: a useful airport bus, but it starts at Buangkok

Important correction: Service 110 is not a bus departing from Sengkang Bus Interchange. Its current origin is Buangkok Bus Interchange, which connects with Buangkok MRT (NE15) and Sengkang Grand Mall. Older maps and web pages sometimes place bus 110 at Compassvale Bus Interchange; they describe a previous arrangement. Verify the latest boarding stop rather than trusting an old screenshot.

SMRT-operated Service 110 serves Changi Airport. Changi Airport’s own ground-transport page lists Service 110 for Terminals 1, 2, 3 and 4. This makes it worth comparing when you are already close to Buangkok, or when a 110 stop near your home eliminates extra rail changes.

  • If you are at Sengkang MRT, Buangkok is one North East Line stop in the HarbourFront direction; follow the signs at Buangkok to the bus interchange.
  • If you live along the 110 route through parts of Sengkang, check whether a bus stop nearer your block is more convenient than travelling into Buangkok town centre first.
  • Use the SimplyGo bus 110 eGuide for the actual stop list, operating hours, directions and today’s fare calculation route.
  • Check the airport terminal sequence and make sure the bus you board is going toward Changi Airport, rather than depending on a general statement that the service ‘goes to Changi’.
  • Do not treat the 5:30am to 11:45pm published first/last departures from Buangkok as the timing for every intermediate stop. A last departure from the interchange reaches downstream stops later.

The one-bus option is less attractive if you must make several local transfers simply to reach it. At that point, the MRT may be easier. It is also subject to road traffic, so a flight departure is not the occasion to assume a fixed bus journey duration.

Which airport terminal does the route actually reach?

TerminalRail approachBus 110 and practical detail
T1Train to CG2, then follow T1 transfer directions through the airport complexChangi Airport lists 110 among buses for T1
T2CG2 has a direct connection to Terminal 2Changi Airport lists 110 for T2
T3CG2 has a direct connection to Terminal 3Changi Airport lists 110 for T3
T4CG2 does not sit inside T4; use the airport’s terminal transfer/shuttle arrangementChangi Airport lists 110 as a public bus serving T4

Some airlines operate from different terminals on different dates or for particular flights. Use the airline’s current booking information and the airport’s flight/terminal information rather than relying on an old itinerary. The time required after reaching the airport station is not the same as being at the check-in counter.

Option 3 — Taxi or private-hire car from Sengkang

A vehicle can be the right choice when the traveller is a child with an accompanying adult, an older person who cannot easily make transfers, a family with several suitcases or anyone travelling before public transport is operating. Enter the correct terminal and door, not simply ‘Changi Airport’. A road journey has less walking and transferring but more sensitivity to congestion, pickup waiting time, vehicle availability and applicable surcharges.

  • Before confirming the booking, compare the quoted price, airport or time-based surcharges, luggage and passenger capacity, pickup point and cancellation conditions.
  • If using a taxi stand, confirm the correct direction of travel and any driver or booking instructions. A Sengkang town-centre pickup point is not interchangeable with a private-building driveway.
  • If travelling with a child who requires an appropriate restraint, check the transport type and applicable rules rather than assuming any booked car is automatically suitable.
  • For flights at dawn, book and recheck the ride in advance. A displayed estimated arrival time is not a promise of pickup.
  • Keep your passport, phone, tickets and essential medication in a small bag accessible without opening a suitcase.

How much does it cost, and how long should you allow?

There is no honest single price or single travel-time figure from all of Sengkang to all of Changi Airport. The starting point could be a flat next to Buangkok or one that requires a ride from Fernvale to the main rail station; arrival could be T2 or T4. The relevant variables are walking distance, number of transfers, road conditions, service changes and whether you travel at peak time.

For rail and bus card fares, enter the actual origin, destination and transfer path in LTA’s public-transport fare calculator. For current train times, station exits and bus arrivals, use LTA MyTransport and journey planning. For taxis or private-hire cars, compare actual booking quotes rather than a generic online estimate.

Departure-day checklist: make the airport transfer the easy part

  • Confirm the terminal on the airline or airport information, especially for T4.
  • Work backward from the recommended check-in time. Include the LRT or local bus, station access, rail changes, terminal transfer, walking, crowds and a disruption buffer.
  • Check service notices on the day. First/last train tables are schedules, not guarantees that an interchange connection will still operate when you arrive.
  • Have a fallback. Decide in advance when you would switch from bus or rail to a booked car; avoid improvising after a critical deadline has passed.
  • Plan the return journey as well. Landing after the last useful train connection may change the best transport choice.
  • Do a final tap-card check. Carry a supported bank card or transport card and confirm your mobile wallet can be used without a network connection.

Coming home: Changi Airport to Sengkang

From Terminals 2/3, follow the signs to Changi Airport MRT station (CG2). A rail return option is to travel to Expo (CG1/DT35), change to the Downtown Line towards Little India, then take the North East Line towards Punggol Coast to Sengkang (NE16). If your home is farther into Anchorvale, Compassvale, Rivervale or Fernvale, check whether the LRT is still operating and which loop will be fastest.

Bus 110 also runs back towards Buangkok via its airport loop, but airport terminal boarding points and first/last services should be checked on the day. Do not assume the stop at which you were dropped off is exactly the stop to use for the return direction. After late arrivals, a taxi or private-hire car may be the more dependable final leg.

Common mistakes and how to prevent them

  • Going to Sengkang Bus Interchange for bus 110: use Buangkok Bus Interchange or a verified 110 stop.
  • Getting off the Downtown Line at Expo and thinking you have reached the airport: the airport branch train is a separate connection.
  • Thinking CG2 is inside Terminal 4: it connects directly to T2 and T3; follow T4 transfer arrangements.
  • Timing only the rail ride: terminal access, security, check-in and boarding have their own deadlines.
  • Trusting a 2024–October 2026 diversion map: check today’s operator information.
  • Assuming the latest departure for an interchange is the latest possible departure from your home: allow for your first and last mile.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a direct MRT from Sengkang to Changi Airport?

No. Sengkang is on the North East Line, while Changi Airport MRT is on the airport branch of the East West Line. The Little India–Expo approach requires changes at Little India and Expo.

Does bus 110 go from Sengkang Bus Interchange to Changi Airport?

No. As of this review, Service 110 starts from Buangkok Bus Interchange. It serves stops in the wider Sengkang area and Changi Airport; check the full route before boarding.

Can I reach Terminal 4 by public bus?

Yes. Changi Airport lists Service 110 among the public buses serving T4. Train travellers use CG2 and then the airport’s terminal transfer arrangements.

Should I take the bus or MRT with large luggage?

Compare walking, transfers and vehicle accessibility. A bus may mean fewer transfers if you live beside its route, but rail may be easier to plan. A taxi can reduce the need to carry luggage across stations.

What if I have a very early morning flight?

Check when your complete route starts, not just when one individual train begins. If the combination cannot meet check-in time with a sensible margin, use an appropriately booked road option.

Can visitors pay for Singapore trains and buses with a bank card?

LTA lists eligible contactless cards, mobile wallets and transport cards; foreign-issued bank cards may carry an administrative fee. Use official payment guidance and confirm your card type.
