Sengkang Green Primary School’s history begins with preparation in 2012 for a first Primary One cohort the following year. The MOE Heritage Centre records the school at 15 Fernvale Road and its official opening in 2015. Its early story shows how planning, registration, lessons and ceremonies form different stages of a school’s beginning.

CHAPTER 1 OF 4 · Beginnings and development

1. Preparing for the first cohort

Back to contents

The Heritage Centre account names Mrs Daphne Yeoh and Mr Martin Chan as the first principal and vice-principal designates. It records a team of 15 teaching and administrative staff preparing to welcome 180 Primary One pupils in 2013.

Those figures belong to the founding period. They help us picture the scale of the initial task without turning an older account into a statement about today’s enrolment or staff numbers.

2. An opening in 2015

Back to contents

MOE’s published milestones date the official opening to 2015, after the first cohort had already begun. The account describes facilities including an indoor sports hall, synthetic field, performing arts studio and student care centre.

These details invite a useful question: what spaces does a school need besides classrooms? A history of facilities can help students understand how different parts of a campus support a day of learning.

3. The first cohort reaches Primary Six

Back to contents

The timeline records the first graduating PSLE cohort in 2018. It also places the kindergarten annex’s official opening in 2017 and the kindergarten’s integration under the primary school in 2018.

That sequence adds a human measure of time. A founding Primary One cohort progresses through six school years while the institution itself continues to develop. Campus history and pupil history run alongside each other.

4. A growing tree in the crest

Back to contents

The Heritage Centre explains the crest through a young tree inspired by the Tembusu, representing a growing child supported by strong values and an educational partnership.

For a family activity, compare the crest’s idea of growth with the first-cohort timeline. One is symbolic; the other is chronological. Both help explain a school’s identity. Use official school channels for current activities, admissions or visits, and do not assume unrestricted campus access.
