Follow the school’s journey
Nan Chiau Primary School traces its establishment to March 1947, when it was the primary section within the older Nan Chiau institution. Its official history dates the Sengkang relocation to December 2000 and operation as a separate primary school to January 2001. Those milestones explain how an older educational tradition became part of a newer town.

The school’s history records the conversion of Nan Chiau Teachers’ Training School into Nan Chiau Girls’ High School in 1947, with an ancillary primary school. Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan appears throughout that institutional story.
Keep the primary-school starting point distinct from the earlier teachers’ training initiative. A shared heritage contains several stages; it is clearer to name the stage than to assign every related institution the same founding date.

2. Earlier learning at the Kim Yam Road site
The official account records that, during rebuilding in 1965, the secondary section moved temporarily to Guillemard Road while the primary section remained at the original site. It later describes the two sections sharing premises as a full school.
This is a good example of why primary and secondary histories need their own attention. Even when sections belong to the same wider institution, their pupils may experience different campus journeys.
Following the December 2000 relocation, Nan Chiau High and Nan Chiau Primary operated as two schools from January 2001. The primary school’s official opening followed on 8 March 2003, officiated by then Education Minister Teo Chee Hean.
Label those events relocation, separate operation and official opening. That short sequence makes the transition understandable without confusing the new-town campus with the beginning of the school’s entire history.

4. Reading a history that keeps growing
The school’s timeline records its 75th-anniversary commemoration in 2022. That anniversary reflects the 1947 starting point rather than the year of the Sengkang move.
For a student exercise, place the founding and relocation milestones on the same line, then explain what each measures. Read the school’s published material for photographs and further milestones. Current visits, admissions and programmes require current official information; a historical account is not a campus-access guide.
