eduKateSengkang · School and neighbourhood history
Follow the school’s journey
Seng Kang Primary School began operations on 3 January 1997, becoming the first school in Sengkang Town according to its official history. Its first lessons took place in temporary premises before the move to 21 Compassvale Walk that December. The story gives a clear picture of a school community forming alongside a new residential town.

Chapters 3–4 · Milestones and local learning
The school records an initial community of 327 students in ten classes, supported by 23 staff members. Its first principal was Mrs Chin Shin Wea. These figures describe the beginning, rather than the school’s present enrolment or staffing.
Imagine those first families preparing for a school day in a town still taking shape. A school opening is a local-history milestone because it brings a daily rhythm into a neighbourhood: lessons, friendships and the journey between home and classroom.
CHAPTER 2 OF 4 · Beginnings and campus journey
2. Learning before the building was ready
While its own campus was under construction, the school used the former Hai Seng Girls’ High premises along Upper Serangoon Road. Its account dates the move to Compassvale Walk to 12 December 1997.
The temporary address and permanent address belong to the same institution’s story. That distinction is useful for students: a school can already be teaching and building a community before its intended campus is completed.
The school’s published timeline places its official-opening ceremony in 1998. Keep that event separate from the January 1997 operational start and the December 1997 relocation.
For a short family timeline, give each milestone a clear label: began teaching, moved campus, celebrated official opening. Three labels make the sequence easy to understand without treating every event as the school’s founding.
CHAPTER 4 OF 4 · Milestones and local learning
4. Reading the history of a growing town
The school’s account links its beginnings with Sengkang’s development as a modern residential town. Read that history alongside neighbourhood maps, noticing where Compassvale Walk sits within the estate.
A student can draw a simple route between the earlier temporary setting and the permanent home, then add the relevant dates. Explore through published material and public space; school entry requires its own arrangements. Check current official channels for visits, programmes and admissions.
