North Spring Primary School’s 2024 silver-jubilee records offer a clear way into its community history. The school published an alumni invitation for Staff Appreciation Day that August, while NYAA’s annual report records an anniversary luncheon on 15 November 2024. These are dated celebrations, not a basis for inventing an exact founding day.

CHAPTER 1 OF 4 · Starting points and dated milestones

1. An alumni invitation in August 2024

Back to contents

The school’s announcements page preserves an invitation for former pupils to return on 29 August 2024 during its 25th-anniversary year. It describes meeting teachers again and an anniversary photo booth.

Read the date attached to the individual announcement. A page updated more recently can still contain an older event, so the phrase “this year” in that invitation refers to its 2024 context.

2. The November anniversary luncheon

Back to contents

NYAA’s 2024 annual report records a silver-jubilee luncheon on 15 November 2024 and identifies NYAA Council chairman Dr Eugene Seah as guest of honour.

The August invitation and November report describe different occasions. Keeping them separate gives the anniversary year a clearer sequence and prevents an old invitation from being mistaken for a future event.

3. Grandparents’ stories become a publication

Back to contents

North Spring’s announcements also link Cherished Memories of Yesteryears, a collection of grandparents’ life experiences. NYAA’s publications page describes North Spring pupils recording stories from their grandparents; the school credits support from NYAA and the Stephen Riady Foundation.

That connects school history with family history. Pupils can help preserve experiences older than the school itself, carrying memories between generations through listening and writing.

4. A history activity to try at home

Back to contents

Invite a willing older relative to describe one remembered school-day journey or neighbourhood routine. Note when and where it happened, ask permission before recording, and let them check your written account.

Keep personal recollection labelled as recollection, alongside any documents that help establish dates. For current North Spring events or visits, use present official information. The anniversary records above are historical, and do not authorise a return visit today.
