Primary 1 Is a Phase Boundary
Before Primary 1, many learning moments are held together by close adult attention, play, conversation, immediate feedback and flexible timing. Primary school introduces a larger shared system. Primary 1 Mathematics begins with a profound human achievement: turning quantity and relationship into symbols. The child must understand that “7” is not merely a shape or a position in a chant. It represents a quantity that remains seven whether arranged in a line, a cluster or two groups.

A diagnosis should remain provisional. The same visible behaviour can have different causes. We test a hypothesis, change one part of instruction, observe the return and revise the hypothesis when necessary.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does every Primary 1 child need tuition?
No. Many children progress well through school and home support. Tuition is useful when there is a clear job: an emerging gap, a difficult transition, a need for more responsive practice or a capability that is not stabilising. Attendance should not be justified merely because classmates attend.
Should P1 tuition teach ahead?
