Stop Translating Chinese Grammar into English | 停止把中文语法直译成英语
Do not translate the grammar. Transfer the meaning, then rebuild the sentence in English.
不要翻译“语法外形”。先保留意思,再用英语重新建造句子。
This lesson begins with a problem that often survives long after a learner has acquired thousands of English words. The vocabulary may be advanced. The grammar rules may be familiar. The learner may read difficult articles, write essays, attend university, work internationally and hold long conversations. Yet some sentences still feel as if Chinese has been placed inside English vocabulary.
这一课从一个很常见、也很顽固的问题开始。很多学习者已经认识几千甚至上万英文单词,也学过大量语法规则,能够读难文章、写论文、上大学、在国际环境中工作和交流。但是,有些句子仍然像是把中文结构装进英文单词。
The problem is not that Mandarin Chinese is “wrong” or that English is “better”. They are different language systems. They package time, reference, subjects, topics, quantity, existence, modification and information flow differently. When you translate the surface structure instead of the intended meaning, the result can be grammatical-looking English with Chinese architecture underneath.
问题不是“中文错、英语对”,更不是“英语比中文高级”。两种语言只是不同系统。它们组织时间、指代、主语、话题、数量、存在、修饰和信息流的方式不同。如果你翻译的是句子表面形状,而不是它真正要完成的意义任务,最后很容易出现一种语言:英文单词都在那里,但下面的建筑图还是中文。
At advanced level, the goal is not to suppress Mandarin. Your first language is an intellectual resource. It gives you knowledge, concepts, memories, categories and another way to analyse meaning. The goal is to stop forcing one grammar system to behave like the other.
到了高级阶段,目标不是“禁止中文”。你的母语是认知资源,它给你知识、概念、记忆、分类和另一套分析意义的方法。真正要停止的,是强迫一种语言按照另一种语言的语法方式运行。
Before we begin: what this lesson owns | 这一课负责什么,不负责什么
eduKate Sengkang already has canonical pages for individual grammar mechanisms. This lesson does not recreate those owners. It teaches Mandarin-speaking advanced learners how to notice cross-language transfer, diagnose where the transfer begins, and rebuild an English sentence from meaning.
eduKate Sengkang 已经有独立的语法机制主页面。这一课不重复制造“第二套时态、第二套冠词、第二套句法”。它负责的是更高一层:帮助中文母语高级学习者发现跨语言迁移,从最早的断点做诊断,然后从意义出发,重新建造英文句子。
- How Grammar Becomes Sentence Control — general grammar mechanism owner.
- How Tense and Aspect Control Time, Completion and Ongoing Action — tense/aspect owner.
- How Articles and Determiners Control Specificity, Shared Knowledge and Reference — article/determiner owner.
- How to Learn Advanced English Vocabulary (Chinese Edition) — lexical depth owner.
- Lesson No.002 | Master Collocation, Register and Precision — context calibration and register.
This page is the transfer layer that connects them.
这一页是把这些机制连接起来的迁移层。
1. The master rule: meaning first, English structure second | 总规则:先保留意思,再选英语结构
When translating from Chinese, many learners unconsciously use this process:
Chinese sentence → Chinese word order → replace each Chinese unit with English → repair obvious grammar.
很多学习者无意识中使用这条路线:
中文句子 → 保留中文词序 → 一个单位一个单位换成英文 → 最后修明显语法。
At beginner level, this can sometimes produce a usable sentence. At advanced level, it creates a ceiling because English choices are being made too late. The architecture is already fixed before English gets a chance to organise the message.
初级阶段,这种方法有时还能制造“能用的句子”。高级阶段,它会形成天花板,因为英语做决定的时间太晚。句子建筑已经被中文固定好了,英语只能进去换材料。
Use a different route:
Chinese meaning → identify the communication job → identify relationships → choose an English clause structure → choose tense/reference/determiners → choose vocabulary and register → check information flow.
新的路线是:
中文意义 → 判断交际任务 → 找出关系 → 选择英语从句结构 → 选择时态/指代/限定词 → 选择词汇和语域 → 检查信息流。
This is not slower forever. At first, it is deliberate. With repeated use, the new route becomes faster and more automatic.
一开始会比较慢,但不会永远慢。经过反复练习,“意义 → 英语结构”会逐渐变成更直接的路线。
2. Chinese and English do not have to divide reality the same way | 中英文不需要用同样方式切分现实
Two languages can describe the same event while making different grammatical choices. English may require a subject where Mandarin can leave one understood. English may mark time on the verb where Mandarin uses time expressions and aspect particles. English may use an article where Mandarin uses context. Mandarin may place a relative clause before a noun while English places it after. Mandarin may establish a topic and then comment on it; English more often builds a clause around a grammatical subject and finite verb.
两种语言可以描述同一件事,却使用不同的语法选择。中文可以省略语境中已经明确的主语,英语往往需要明确主语;中文大量依靠时间词和体标记,英语会在动词系统中标记时态和体;英语使用冠词,中文没有完全对应的冠词系统;中文定语从句通常放在名词前面,英语关系从句通常放在名词后面;中文很容易先提出话题,再作评论,而英语更经常围绕一个明确语法主语和限定动词建句。
These differences do not mean one language is more logical. They mean translation requires reconstruction.
这些差异不说明哪一种语言“更有逻辑”。它们只说明:翻译需要重建。
3. Topic first vs subject first | 话题优先与主语结构
Mandarin is often described as strongly topic-prominent. A speaker can establish what the sentence is about and then comment on it. English can also front topics, but ordinary English clause structure places heavier grammatical demands on subjects and finite verbs.
中文经常被描述为具有很强的“话题突出”特征。说话者可以先提出“我们现在谈什么”,再对它评论。英语也可以做话题前置,但普通英文句子的语法核心更依赖明确的主语和限定动词。
Consider the Chinese idea:
这本书,我很喜欢。
A literal shape can produce: This book, I very like.
Natural English normally rebuilds it as:
- I really like this book.
- This is a book I really like.
- As for this book, I really like it. — possible but marked; used when the topic contrast matters.
关键不是“中文不能话题前置”。关键是英语的话题前置有自己的使用条件,不能把中文常规结构自动当作英语常规结构。
4. Subject omission: English often makes the actor grammatically visible | 中文可省主语,英语经常必须把主语写出来
Mandarin can omit a subject when context makes it obvious. English has some subject omission in informal fragments, imperatives and special structures, but ordinary finite clauses normally require a grammatical subject.
中文在语境明确时可以省略主语。英语也有命令句、口语片段等省略现象,但普通限定从句通常需要语法主语。
Chinese sequence:
昨天去开会了,回来以后发现文件不见了。
English cannot simply omit the actor repeatedly:
Yesterday went to a meeting, after coming back discovered the file was missing.
Rebuild:
- I went to a meeting yesterday, and when I came back, I discovered that the file was missing.
- After yesterday’s meeting, I returned to find that the file was missing.
高级写作里,问题不只是“加 I”。你还要决定谁是每个从句的逻辑主语,以及不同从句是否共享同一主语。
5. Dummy subjects: English sometimes needs a grammatical subject with little lexical meaning | 英语有时需要“形式主语”
English uses it and there in structures where Mandarin often does not need an equivalent pronoun.
- It is raining. — not “Is raining.”
- It is important to check the evidence.
- There are three problems with the proposal.
- There appears to be a mismatch.
中文可以说“下雨了”“很重要”“有三个问题”。英语往往要使用 it 或 there 来满足句法结构。
A 2026 corpus-based study of Chinese EFL writing highlighted persistent difficulties in English existential constructions, including forms such as using have where English requires be. This is a useful example of why semantic similarity is not enough: Chinese 有 and English have overlap in some meanings, but English existence is often expressed with there + be, not possession grammar.
2026 年一项关于中国 EFL 写作的语料研究再次指出,英语存在句仍会出现持续性问题,例如把“有”的形式直接带进英语,用 have 替代 there + be。这里正好说明:语义看起来接近,不代表语法结构可以一一对应。
6. “There has many…” is not English existence | “那里有很多”不能直接变成 There has many
Chinese:
这个地区有很多新学校。
Do not map 有 directly to have:
There has many new schools in this area.
Rebuild the function: introducing entities into a location.
- There are many new schools in this area.
- This area has many new schools. — possible, but now the area is grammatically presented as possessing the schools.
两个英文句子都可能成立,但信息结构不同。第一句用存在结构“把新学校带进篇章”;第二句把 this area 变成主语。
7. Tense is not just a time word | 英语时态不只是“加一个昨天”
Mandarin commonly expresses temporal location through context and time expressions, while aspect particles and other resources express how an event is viewed. English also uses time expressions, but finite verb forms and auxiliary systems carry grammatical distinctions that Mandarin does not encode in the same way.
中文大量使用语境和时间词来定位时间,同时用体标记等资源表达事件怎样被观察。英语也用时间词,但限定动词和助动词系统会承担中文不以同样方式承担的语法任务。
Chinese:
我昨天去图书馆。
Literal transfer:
I yesterday go library.
English reconstruction:
I went to the library yesterday.
The word yesterday does not remove the need for past tense in standard English.
有 yesterday,不代表英语动词就可以保持原形。
For the full system, route to How Tense and Aspect Control Time, Completion and Ongoing Action.
8. Tense and aspect are meaning choices, not a “16-form table” | 时态与体是意义选择,不只是“十六时态表”
A 2025–2026 study comparing popular Chinese EFL grammar books with major English reference grammars found that Chinese instructional materials commonly teach sixteen tense-aspect combinations, including four “future-in-the-past” forms treated as separate categories. The authors argue that these are better analysed through backshifting and the functions of would, rather than as four additional tense-aspect categories. Their learner/teacher survey also found support for reducing unnecessary complexity.
2025 年发表、2026 年更新的一项研究比较了中国常见 EFL 语法书与权威英语参考语法。研究指出,中国教材里常见的“十六时态”体系包含四种被单独列出的“过去将来”组合,而更合理的分析往往应回到 backshift(时态后移)和 would 的不同功能。研究中的教师和学习者也对减少不必要复杂度表现出支持。
The lesson for advanced learners is important: do not collect tense names. Learn the meaning decisions.
对高级学习者真正重要的是:不要继续收集“时态名称”,而是学习意义决策。
- Where is the reference time?
- Is the event completed, ongoing, repeated or viewed as relevant now?
- Is one past event earlier than another?
- Is the speaker describing prediction, willingness, habit or reported future?
先回答这些问题,再选结构。
9. 了 is not “past tense” | 了 不是英语过去时
A common beginner shortcut is to equate Chinese 了 with English past tense. This fails quickly at advanced level.
初学时,有人会把“了”简单等于英语过去时。到了高级阶段,这种对应一定会失败。
- 我吃了。 may describe a completed event: I’ve eaten / I ate, depending on context.
- 下雨了。 often signals a change of state: It has started raining / It’s raining now.
- 他老了。 expresses change: He has grown old / He is old now.
同一个“了”在英语里可能需要完全不同的结构。不要翻译标记,要翻译事件关系。
10. 过 is not automatically “have ever done” | 过 也不是固定等于 present perfect
Chinese experiential 过 often overlaps with English experience constructions, but context still controls the choice.
- 我去过北京。 → I’ve been to Beijing.
- 我小时候去过北京很多次。 → I went to Beijing many times when I was a child.
The second sentence has a finished past-time frame, so simple past is natural. You cannot translate the particle mechanically.
第二句把经历放进已经结束的童年时间框架,因此英语自然使用过去时。体标记不能机械映射。
11. 在/正在 and -ing overlap, but not perfectly | 在/正在 与 -ing 有重叠,但不是一一对应
Chinese progressive markers and English progressive aspect often overlap:
我正在看书。 → I’m reading.
But English progressive choice interacts with verb meaning, temporary situations, planned arrangements, repeated irritation and other discourse effects.
- I think you’re right. — ordinary mental state.
- I’m thinking about the problem. — active mental process.
- She has a car. — possession.
- She’s having lunch. — event use of have.
高级学习不能只记“正在 = be + ing”。你需要理解动词在这个语境中是什么意义。
12. Present perfect is not a translated tense label | 现在完成时不是一个中文标签
English present perfect creates a relationship between an earlier situation and the present discourse point. The exact relationship varies: experience, continuing situation, recent result, current relevance and other uses.
英语现在完成时把过去情况和“现在这个话语点”连接起来。具体可以是经历、持续状态、最近结果、当前相关性等。
Compare:
- I lived in Shanghai for five years. — presents the period as completed.
- I have lived in Shanghai for five years. — normally connects the five-year period to now.
- I have finished the report. — current result matters.
- I finished the report yesterday. — finished event located in a completed past-time expression.
中国学习者的 tense-aspect processing continues to be an active research area. A 2026 study of L1 Mandarin speakers examined how additional-language knowledge can even transfer back into English tense/aspect interpretation. The larger lesson is that tense/aspect is a conceptual system, not merely a translation table.
13. Articles: Chinese context often does work that English articles make grammatical | 冠词:中文用语境完成的工作,英语常常语法化
Mandarin has no direct equivalent of the English a/an/the article system. That means advanced learners can know the rules explicitly and still make unstable choices under writing pressure.
中文没有与英语 a/an/the 完全对应的冠词系统。因此,高级学习者即使“知道规则”,在真实写作压力下仍可能不稳定。
English articles ask questions about reference:
- Is this one countable member being introduced? → a/an
- Can the reader identify which one I mean? → often the
- Am I speaking about a plural/general category? → often zero article
- Is the noun uncountable/general? → often zero article, depending on structure
完整机制请连接 How Articles and Determiners Control Specificity, Shared Knowledge and Reference。
14. “The” is a reference decision, not a decoration | the 是指代决策,不是装饰
Compare:
- I spoke to a teacher. — introduces one teacher not yet identifiable.
- I spoke to the teacher. — assumes the listener can identify which teacher.
- Teachers need feedback. — general plural category.
中文里都可能出现“我跟老师说了”“老师需要反馈”等形式,但英语必须更明确地处理可识别性和类别。
A 2025 study using large learner corpora examined article use inside formulaic sequences among Chinese learners and found omission, addition and misformation patterns. The useful advanced-learning point is that article control is not solved by memorising one rule; articles are embedded in phrases, reference patterns and discourse.
2025 年一项基于大型学习者语料库的研究分析了中国学习者在词块中的冠词使用,并观察到省略、多加和形式错误。高级学习的启示是:冠词不是背一条规则就结束,它和词块、指代、篇章持续连接。
15. Countability: Chinese classifiers and English count grammar do different work | 可数性:量词系统与英语 count grammar 不同
Mandarin and English organise noun quantity differently. Mandarin classifiers help count nouns; English countability affects articles, plurals, quantifiers and agreement.
中文通过量词等方式组织数量;英语的可数/不可数属性会影响冠词、复数、量词和一致关系。
Common advanced traps include:
- an information → information / a piece of information
- many advices → much advice / several pieces of advice
- researches show → often research shows, unless referring to separate research works in a context where plural is conventional.
- evidences → usually evidence / pieces of evidence
不要只记“这个词不可数”。把 countability 当作词汇行为的一部分,和限定词、量词、搭配一起学习。
16. Singular/plural reference is meaning | 单复数不是词尾小问题,而是意义
Compare:
- A student needs feedback. — one representative member; can sound generic in some contexts.
- Students need feedback. — general plural category.
- The students need feedback. — identifiable group.
三个句子都可以翻成类似的中文,但英语指代范围不同。高级写作必须保留这种区别。
17. 是 is not always “be” | 是 不能机械等于 be
Chinese and English use copular structures differently.
- 我是老师。 → I am a teacher.
- 我很累。 → I am tired. — English requires be; Chinese does not use 是 here.
- 这个问题很复杂。 → This problem is complicated.
- 他在家。 → He is at home.
如果你先在中文里找“是”,再决定英语要不要 be,会经常选错。英语需要根据 predicate 类型建结构。
18. 很 is not always “very” | 很 也不总是 very
In Mandarin adjective predicates, 很 can play grammatical/discourse roles that do not always carry strong intensification. Literal translation can over-intensify English.
中文形容词谓语里的 很 并不总是承担强烈“very”的意义。直接翻译会让英语过度强调。
- 他很高。 often simply → He is tall.
- 他非常高。 → He is very tall. / He is extremely tall., depending on intended strength.
高级翻译要翻“强度”,不是翻单个字。
19. Questions: 吗 does not become a word at the end | 英语问句要重建句法
Mandarin yes/no questions can use 吗 without changing the internal statement order. English yes/no questions commonly require auxiliary inversion or do-support.
中文可以保持陈述句词序再加 吗。英语一般要调整助动词结构。
- 你喜欢咖啡吗? → Do you like coffee?
- 他在家吗? → Is he at home?
- 你看过这本书吗? → Have you read this book? / Did you read this book?, depending on context.
不要先造英文陈述句,再想办法在尾巴上“加一个问号”。英语问句从结构层面开始变化。
20. Wh-questions: English often moves the question phrase | 疑问词位置不能照搬
Chinese wh-words often remain in the position where the answer would occur. English normally fronts the wh-phrase in direct questions.
- 你买了什么? → What did you buy?
- 你跟谁说话? → Who did you speak to? / To whom did you speak? — register differs.
- 你为什么这样做? → Why did you do that?
但嵌入式问句又改变规则:
- Do you know where he is? — not where is he inside the embedded clause.
高级句法控制来自“识别从句类型”,不是只识别问号。
21. Negation: English often needs do-support | 英语否定经常需要 do
Mandarin can negate many verbs directly with 不 or 没. Standard English often requires an auxiliary.
- 我不喜欢。 → I don’t like it.
- 他没去。 → He didn’t go.
- 我不知道。 → I don’t know.
但 be、modal auxiliaries and perfect/progressive auxiliaries behave differently:
- He isn’t ready.
- She can’t come.
- They haven’t finished.
- We aren’t waiting.
不要把“不/没”当成一个可以直接插在任何英文动词前面的词。先判断英语助动词系统。
22. Although…but and because…so | 虽然…但是 / 因为…所以 不能机械双重标记
Mandarin commonly uses paired connective structures such as 虽然…但是 and 因为…所以. Standard formal English normally does not use both members in the same way.
- Although it was late, but we continued. → Although it was late, we continued.
- Because it was raining, so we stayed home. → Because it was raining, we stayed home. / It was raining, so we stayed home.
中文把关系标两次很自然,英语通常让一个主要连接结构完成工作。
This is a good example of why grammar translation fails even when every translated word is individually correct.
23. Comparatives: 比 is not a single English word | 比 不是一个固定英语词
Chinese comparison and English comparison use different structural resources.
- 他比我高。 → He is taller than I am. / He is taller than me. in common speech.
- 今天比昨天冷。 → It is colder today than it was yesterday.
- 这个方案比原来的有效。 → This approach is more effective than the original one.
Do not translate 比 as one word and then keep Chinese architecture. English comparison requires comparative morphology or more/less, plus the comparison phrase.
24. “More better” reveals two systems stacked together | more better 是两个比较系统叠在一起
English usually marks a regular comparative either morphologically (better, taller) or analytically (more effective), not both.
- more better → better
- more easier → easier
- more convenient → correct because convenient normally uses analytic comparison.
高级阶段不要只记“不能说 more better”。要知道英语有两种比较构造,先判断词本身怎样形成比较级。
25. Relative clauses: Chinese modifies before the noun; English usually modifies after | 定语从句方向相反
Chinese typically places a relative clause before the head noun:
我昨天买的书
English normally places the relative clause after the noun:
the book that I bought yesterday
A learner who preserves Chinese assembly order can produce overloaded pre-nominal structures or unnatural noun phrases.
中文把大量信息压在名词前面,英语关系从句通常在名词后展开。高级写作需要重新安排信息方向。
Compare a long idea:
我们去年在上海会议上讨论过的那个后来被委员会拒绝的计划
English may need:
the proposal that we discussed at the Shanghai conference last year and that the committee later rejected
Or, for clarity:
We discussed the proposal at the Shanghai conference last year. The committee later rejected it.
高级写作不是永远把所有信息塞进一个超级名词短语。清晰度决定结构。
26. Long Chinese modifiers often need English clause splitting | 中文长定语常常要拆
Chinese can build very dense pre-nominal modification. English can also build dense noun phrases, especially in technical writing, but direct transfer easily becomes unreadable.
Example concept:
为了减少低收入家庭在政策调整期间可能面临的额外经济压力而设计的临时补贴计划
A literal English noun pile is possible but heavy. A clearer version may be:
The government introduced a temporary subsidy programme to reduce the additional financial pressure that low-income households might face during the policy transition.
先找主句,再把目的、对象、风险和时间分配到适合的从句或短语。
27. Chinese parataxis vs explicit English clause relationships | 中文可以靠语义并列,英语常需要更明确标关系
Mandarin can place clauses next to each other and let semantic/contextual relations do substantial work. English can also use juxtaposition, but formal English often benefits from more explicit marking of cause, concession, condition or sequence.
中文经常把几个分句放在一起,让语义和语境承担关系。英语也能这样做,但正式英语往往需要更明确地标出因果、让步、条件和顺序。
Chinese-like transfer:
The cost increased, the team reduced the scope, the launch was delayed.
Possible reconstructions:
- Because costs increased, the team reduced the project scope, which delayed the launch.
- Costs increased. As a result, the team reduced the scope, and the launch was delayed.
- The team reduced the project scope after costs increased; the resulting redesign delayed the launch.
选择哪一个,取决于你要强调的因果链。
28. English finite clauses need boundaries | 英语限定从句需要清楚边界
Advanced learners sometimes produce comma splices when translating a chain of Chinese clauses.
The evidence was limited, we decided to continue the experiment.
Repair options:
- The evidence was limited, so we decided to continue the experiment.
- Because the evidence was limited, we decided to continue the experiment.
- The evidence was limited. We therefore decided to continue the experiment.
标点不是最后装饰。它反映你怎样划分英语句法单元。
29. Pronouns and repeated nouns: English needs stable reference chains | 代词与重复名词要形成稳定指代链
Chinese can sometimes omit repeated referents or rely on topic continuity. English long-form writing often requires more explicit reference maintenance.
Weak translation-like paragraph:
The company announced the policy. Said it would start in June. After receiving complaints, changed it. This made them angry.
Rebuild:
The company announced that the policy would take effect in June. After receiving complaints, it revised the policy. The change angered some customers.
Notice that the final sentence replaces vague This and unclear them with named referents.
高级英语需要不断检查:每一个 it、they、this、that 到底指谁?读者能不能毫不犹豫地找到 antecedent?
30. “This” should often become “this + noun” | this 后面加名词可以提高精准度
Academic and professional writing often benefits from labelled reference:
- This shows… → This result shows…
- This caused… → This policy change caused…
- This is important because… → This distinction is important because…
不是所有 this 都必须加名词,但当指代可能不清楚时,命名 referent 会让英语更稳定。
31. Passive voice: 被 does not map mechanically to be + past participle | 被 也不能机械对应英文被动
Chinese 被 constructions and English passive constructions overlap in some functions, but English passive choice depends on information structure, genre and whether the actor matters.
- 文件被删除了。 → The file was deleted. — direct overlap works.
- 我被他气死了。 → literal passive may sound unnatural; English may choose He made me furious.
- 这件事被很多人讨论。 → The issue has been widely discussed. / Many people have discussed the issue., depending on focus.
翻的是信息焦点,不是 被 这个字。
32. 把 constructions often require English verb-centred rebuilding | 把字句需要重新找英文动作中心
Chinese 把 constructions foreground how an object is affected. English does not have one direct equivalent marker.
请把文件放在桌上。 → Please put the file on the table.
我把报告改好了。 → I’ve finished revising the report. / I revised the report and it is ready now.
Do not search for a word meaning 把. Identify the verb, affected object, result and current relevance.
33. Result complements often need an English result structure | 结果补语要翻“结果关系”
Chinese verbs can combine with result complements:
- 看懂 — understand from reading/seeing
- 听懂 — understand from hearing
- 写完 — finish writing
- 找到了 — succeed in finding / found
- 说清楚 — explain/say clearly
English may use a different verb, an aspect construction or a result phrase.
- 我没听懂。 → I didn’t understand what I heard. / I didn’t catch that.
- 我写完了。 → I’ve finished writing it.
- 请说清楚。 → Please explain it clearly. / Please be more specific., depending on job.
高级英语再次要求你问:这个复合结构在完成什么意义任务?
34. Serial verbs: English may need infinitives, coordination or subordinate clauses | 连动结构不能只照顺序搬
Chinese can place verbs in sequence:
我去商店买东西。
English has several options:
- I went to the shop to buy something. — purpose.
- I went to the shop and bought something. — sequence of events.
Two translations describe different event structures. The Chinese surface order alone does not decide which English one you need.
35. Time and place order: do not memorise one rigid formula | 时间地点顺序不要只背一个固定口诀
Chinese and English differ in typical ordering, but English placement changes with information focus and phrase weight.
Chinese:
我昨天在学校见到了她。
Natural English:
- I saw her at school yesterday.
- Yesterday, I saw her at school. — foregrounds the time frame.
- At school yesterday, I saw her talking to the principal. — possible when location/time frame is being established.
不要把“英语一定地点在前还是时间在前”变成死规则。高级阶段要看焦点、长度和篇章位置。
36. Adverbs move according to function | 副词位置取决于功能
Chinese adverb placement can transfer awkwardly into English.
I very like this idea. → I really like this idea.
I yesterday already finished it. → I had already finished it yesterday. / I finished it yesterday., depending on intended temporal relation.
He also yesterday came. → possible reconstructions depend on what also modifies: He also came yesterday vs He came yesterday too.
高级英语里,副词位置会改变 scope。先问副词到底修饰什么。
37. Scope: only, also, even, probably can change meaning by position | 副词位置会改变意义范围
- Only I spoke to her. — nobody else did.
- I only spoke to her. — I did nothing more than speak.
- I spoke only to her. — I spoke to nobody else.
中文翻译可能都接近“我只跟她说了话”,但英语位置决定 only 的作用范围。高级精准表达必须看 scope。
38. Modal verbs do not map neatly onto 会、能、可以、应该 | 情态系统不是逐词对应
Chinese 会、能、可以、应该 and English can, could, may, might, should, would, must overlap but do not form a one-to-one table.
- 他会游泳。 → He can swim. — ability, not normally will.
- 他会来的。 → He’ll come. / He is likely to come., depending on meaning.
- 可以进来吗? → May I come in? / Can I come in?, register differs.
- 你应该去。 → You should go., but strength may vary with context.
不要给每一个中文情态词绑定一个永久英文对应词。学习的是功能集合。
39. Conditionals: 如果 does not automatically mean “if + will” everywhere | 如果句要重建时间与假设关系
English conditionals encode different time and reality relationships.
- If it rains tomorrow, we’ll stay home.
- If I had more time, I would study another language.
- If I had known, I would have told you.
中文往往可以使用 如果 plus context to handle several of these meanings. English requires more explicit tense/modal architecture.
高级条件句不要只背“第零、第一、第二、第三条件句”标签。先判断:真实还是假设?现在、未来还是过去反事实?
40. Reported speech: backshift is a discourse choice, not “past tense after said” | 间接引语不是机械时态后移
Chinese does not use the same tense-backshift system as English. Learners may either fail to backshift where expected or backshift mechanically where the information remains current.
- She said, “I am tired.” → She said that she was tired.
- The teacher said that water boils at 100°C at standard pressure. — general truth can remain present.
Again, the 2025–2026 research on “future-in-the-past” in Chinese EFL grammar teaching is relevant: treating every form as a separate tense category can hide the more useful discourse principle of backshift/non-backshift and the meanings of would.
41. Noun-heavy translation can hide English actions | 中文名词化或政策文体直译会让英文动作消失
Formal Chinese and formal English both permit dense nominal language, but their conventional patterns are not identical. Literal transfer can produce bureaucratic English.
Example:
Regarding the strengthening of the implementation of the management of the project, we conducted the carrying out of several measures.
Rebuild the actions:
To strengthen project management, we introduced several implementation measures.
Or simpler:
We introduced several measures to improve project management.
高级英语不是保留原文每一个名词,而是找出真正的动作和关系。
42. Verb choice can carry structure that Chinese distributes elsewhere | 英语动词经常承担更多结构工作
English verbs often package argument structure, causation, stance and result:
- enable = make it possible for somebody/something to do
- prevent = stop something from happening
- require = make something necessary
- suggest = present an interpretation with limited commitment
- constitute = count as / form something in a formal analytical frame
学习高级英语时,不要只寻找“中文名词 + 做/进行”的直译。很多时候,一个更准确的英语动词会重新组织整句。
43. Avoid “make + abstract noun” when English has a lexical verb | 不要把所有动作都做成 make + 名词
Translation-like English often overuses make:
- make a discussion → discuss / have a discussion
- make an analysis → analyse / conduct an analysis
- make an improvement → improve / make an improvement only where the noun framing is genuinely needed.
- make an influence → influence / have an influence / have an impact
这里既涉及语法,也涉及搭配。深入词汇行为请回到高级词汇中文版;本课重点是先发现“中文动作结构被直接搬过来”的问题。
44. “Do” and “make” are not generic replacements for 做 | 做 不能固定翻成 do 或 make
Chinese 做 appears in many constructions. English lexicalises the activity differently:
- 做决定 → make a decision
- 做研究 → do research / conduct research
- 做饭 → cook
- 做手术 → perform an operation
- 做报告 → give a presentation / write a report, depending on meaning
- 做生意 → do business
词汇搭配决定英语结构。不要让一个高频中文字控制多个英语动词。
45. Translate information structure, not just propositions | 翻译信息结构,不只翻事实内容
Two sentences can describe the same fact but guide attention differently.
- The committee rejected the plan because it was too expensive.
- Because the plan was too expensive, the committee rejected it.
- It was the projected cost that led the committee to reject the plan.
- The plan was rejected primarily on cost grounds.
如果中文原句在强调“成本”,英文也需要通过结构保留这个信息焦点,而不是只保证“委员会拒绝计划”这个事实被翻出来。
46. Given information and new information | 旧信息与新信息会影响英语顺序
English often places familiar/given material earlier and heavier/newer material later, although many factors interact.
Compare:
- A new report was published yesterday. The report identifies three risks.
- Three risks are identified in the report. — useful when the report is already the topic and risks are new.
高级写作的“自然感”很大一部分来自信息顺序,而不只是词汇难度。
47. Do not translate Chinese punctuation habits into English | 标点系统也需要转换
Chinese punctuation and English punctuation overlap but are not identical in usage conventions. Long Chinese sentences separated by commas can become English comma splices.
When translating, identify clause relationships first, then choose English punctuation:
- full stop for independent sentence boundary
- semicolon for closely related independent clauses
- colon for explanation/list where appropriate
- comma with coordinating/subordinating structures according to English conventions
不要最后一秒才“顺便改标点”。标点是句法设计的一部分。
48. Chinese idiom structure should not control English grammar | 成语和四字格不要控制英文结构
Chinese can compress a large conceptual package into a four-character expression. Literal English often fails because the rhetorical unit is different.
因地制宜 is not a fixed English word-for-word sequence. Depending on context:
- adapt the approach to local conditions
- tailor the policy to local circumstances
- use context-specific measures
循序渐进 may become:
- progress step by step
- use a gradual progression
- increase the difficulty in stages
翻成哪个,取决于句子要完成的功能。
49. Translate verbs, not slogans | 翻译动作,不要翻口号外形
When Chinese policy, academic or promotional language contains stacked abstract phrases, ask what concrete action is actually happening.
Instead of:
Carry out the strengthening of the construction of the learning system.
Ask the real job:
- Strengthen the learning system.
- Build a stronger learning system.
- Improve the way the learning system is designed and implemented.
高级翻译经常需要“解压缩中文,再重新压缩英语”。
50. The semantic-kernel method | 语义核心法
Before translating a difficult sentence, reduce it to a semantic kernel.
Example Chinese idea:
由于市场需求在过去六个月持续下降,公司决定推迟原定于十月推出的新产品,以避免在库存已经偏高的情况下进一步增加现金流压力。
Do not translate from left to right. Extract the kernel:
- Demand has been falling for six months.
- The company had planned an October launch.
- Inventory is already high.
- A launch would increase cash-flow pressure.
- The company therefore delayed the product.
Now rebuild:
Because market demand has continued to decline over the past six months, the company has postponed the product launch originally planned for October. With inventory already high, management wants to avoid adding further pressure to cash flow.
这就是高级中译英的核心动作:先拆出关系,再重新建英语。
51. The eight-question reconstruction checklist | 八问重建检查表
- Who or what is the grammatical subject? 英语主语是谁?
- What is the main finite verb? 主句限定动词是什么?
- Where is the time reference? 时间参考点在哪里?
- What aspect/viewpoint is intended? 事件是完成、持续、经历还是当前相关?
- How is the noun referenced? 名词是首次出现、特指、泛指还是不可数?
- What is the logical relationship? 因果、让步、条件、对比、目的还是结果?
- What information should be foregrounded? 哪个信息是重点?
- What register does the situation require? 场景需要什么语域?
这八问比“一个中文字对应哪个英文词”更接近 C1–C2 的真实决策。
52. The three-pass translation repair | 三遍翻译修复法
Pass 1 — Meaning | 第一遍:意思
Ignore elegance. Check whether every important proposition and relationship survived.
先不追求漂亮,只检查信息有没有丢、关系有没有变。
Pass 2 — English architecture | 第二遍:英语建筑
Check subjects, verbs, clauses, tense/aspect, reference, countability and sentence boundaries.
检查主语、动词、从句、时态/体、指代、可数性和句子边界。
Pass 3 — Naturalness and register | 第三遍:自然度与语域
Remove translation-shaped phrasing. Check collocation, information flow, directness and audience fit.
去掉翻译腔,再检查搭配、信息顺序、直接程度和对象匹配。
Lesson 002 owns the deeper register calibration; the advanced vocabulary lane owns lexical depth.
53. The reverse test: can you explain why the English is different? | 反向测试:你能解释为什么英文不能照中文结构吗?
Do not accept a corrected sentence as magic. Explain the repair.
Example:
Although the method is useful, but it is expensive.
Repair:
Although the method is useful, it is expensive.
Explanation:
Chinese can mark concession with both 虽然 and 但是. Standard English normally marks this relationship through the subordinating conjunction although without an additional coordinating but linking the same two clauses.
能解释修复原因,才更容易迁移到新句子。
54. Build a transfer error corpus | 建立“跨语言迁移错误库”
Keep a log of errors where Chinese organisation influenced English.
| Original | Transfer source | Repair | English principle |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yesterday I go library. | time word carrying tense | I went to the library yesterday. | finite past marking + article |
| There have many reasons. | 有 → have | There are many reasons. | English existential there + be |
| Although…, but… | 虽然…但是 | Although…, … | single concessive architecture |
| I very like it. | 很 + verb/adjective transfer | I really like it. | English adverb choice and position |
| He is a very careful person, so work never mistake. | subject omission + lexical translation | He is very careful, so he rarely makes mistakes at work. | explicit subject + natural verb phrase |
每周不要只数“错了几个”。看哪一种迁移机制反复出现。重复三次以上的类别,就进入下周训练重点。
55. Diagnose the first transfer point | 找出“第一个迁移点”
A translated sentence may contain five visible errors, but they can come from one earlier decision.
Example:
For this problem, I think should use another method because now have many limitation.
Visible errors include missing subject, existential structure, article/countability and word choice. But the first transfer point may be the decision to preserve Chinese topic-comment structure and subject omission:
For this problem, I think [we] should…
Rebuild from the kernel:
I think we should use a different approach because the current method has several limitations.
先修最早发生的迁移,后面的很多错误会一起消失。
56. Chinese-first drafting can be useful—but only for ideas | 可以先用中文想,但不要让中文控制最终句法
Advanced bilingual learners do not need to ban Chinese brainstorming. For complex topics, your strongest conceptual language may help you think faster and more deeply.
高级双语学习者不需要禁止中文思考。面对复杂议题,用最强的语言快速生成思想完全合理。
But separate the stages:
- Use Chinese to think if needed.
- Extract bullet-point meaning relations.
- Close the Chinese sentence.
- Build the English from the bullet-point meaning.
- Check English grammar and register independently.
不要一直盯着原中文逐词搬运。先把“中文句子”降维成“意义关系”,再重新升维成英语。
57. English-first micro-planning | 微型任务可以直接用英语规划
For familiar tasks, skip full Chinese sentence generation. Plan with English semantic prompts:
- claim
- reason
- example
- limit
- consequence
Then speak or write from those nodes.
对于熟悉话题,直接用 claim / reason / example / limit / consequence 做英语节点规划,可以逐渐减少“先造完整中文句子”的依赖。
58. Shadow structure, not sentences | 模仿英语结构,不要背整段固定答案
When you meet a strong English sentence, do not only memorise its vocabulary. Extract the structural decision.
Model:
Although the intervention improved short-term performance, the evidence is not yet sufficient to establish a lasting effect.
Structure:
Although X improved Y, the evidence is not yet sufficient to establish Z.
Transfer:
Although the new policy reduced waiting times, the evidence is not yet sufficient to establish a long-term improvement in access.
这样学到的是英语结构的“可迁移骨架”,不是一条死句。
59. Contrastive noticing: compare two good sentences | 对比观察:不要只比较“错句和对句”
Advanced learners benefit from comparing two correct English formulations and asking why a writer chose one.
- The company delayed the launch because demand had fallen.
- With demand having fallen, the company delayed the launch.
- The decline in demand led the company to delay the launch.
All can be grammatical. They package cause, actor and information density differently.
高级水平不能只学“唯一正确答案”。你要开始理解多个正确选择之间的差别。
60. Reading task: reverse-engineer English grammar | 阅读任务:反向拆英语结构
Take one paragraph from a well-edited English article. For each sentence, mark:
- grammatical subject
- finite verb
- time reference
- article/determiner choices
- pronoun reference
- clause relationships
- information focus
Then ask: if I wrote this idea first in Chinese, where would I be tempted to build it differently?
这个问题会把“阅读”变成跨语言句法训练。
61. Listening task: hear auxiliaries and endings | 听力任务:听见英语语法声音
Mandarin-speaking learners may visually know grammar forms but miss them in fast speech because English auxiliaries and inflections are often reduced.
Listen for:
- has / have / had
- is / are / was / were
- do / does / did
- -s agreement/plural
- -ed past forms
- contracted forms such as he’s, they’ve, we’d
阅读里“知道时态”不等于听力里能实时识别这些轻读结构。高级语法必须进入声音系统。
62. Speaking task: one Chinese prompt, three English architectures | 口语任务:一个中文意思,三种英文结构
Chinese prompt:
由于预算不足,我们可能需要推迟项目。
Create three English versions:
- Because the budget is insufficient, we may need to delay the project.
- We may need to delay the project because of budget constraints.
- Budget constraints may require us to postpone the project.
Then explain what each version foregrounds.
这个练习训练“一个意义,多种英语建筑”。
63. Writing task: ban literal rescue for ten minutes | 写作任务:十分钟禁止“逐词救援”
Choose a familiar topic. Write for ten minutes in English using only short planning notes, not a Chinese draft. If you cannot retrieve a word, paraphrase it in simpler English instead of switching immediately to Chinese translation.
选择熟悉话题,十分钟直接英文写作,只允许用短节点,不先写完整中文稿。找不到词时,先用更简单的英文改述,不要第一秒就回中文找对应词。
This trains the English system to remain operational when perfect lexical access fails.
目标不是“永远不用中文”,而是让英语系统在词汇不完美时仍能继续运行。
64. Translation task: close the source before final rewriting | 翻译任务:最后重写时把中文关掉
Use this workflow:
- Read Chinese source carefully.
- Write the English draft.
- Check meaning against source.
- Close/hide the Chinese.
- Rewrite the English as if it were originally written in English.
- Reopen Chinese and verify no important meaning was lost.
第五步非常重要。只要中文一直摆在眼前,你的大脑很容易继续模仿原句形状。
65. The “would an English writer start here?” test | “英文作者会从这里开句吗?”测试
Literal translation often produces unnatural sentence openings:
- Regarding this question, I think…
- For the aspect of education…
- In the process of learning English…
These can sometimes be valid, but they are often overused as translation scaffolds.
Ask:
Would an English writer naturally choose this as the sentence’s starting point, or am I preserving the Chinese topic frame?
Possible simpler rebuilds:
- I think the main issue is…
- Education plays an important role in…
- When learning English, learners often…
66. Avoid “in terms of” as a universal topic marker | 不要把 in terms of 变成万能“从…方面来说”
In terms of is useful, but translation from 方面 can cause overuse.
In terms of the aspect of efficiency, this method is better.
Better:
- This method is more efficient.
- In terms of efficiency, this method performs better. — acceptable when explicit comparison dimension matters.
高级编辑要删除那些只是为了保存中文框架而存在的“空支架”。
67. Avoid “with the development of…” as an automatic opening | 不要自动用 With the development of… 开篇
This phrase is grammatically possible, but it is massively overused in learner writing because it maps easily from 随着…的发展.
Instead of:
With the development of technology, people’s lives have become more convenient.
Ask what exact development and effect you mean:
- Mobile payment systems have made everyday transactions faster and easier.
- Advances in battery technology have extended the practical range of electric vehicles.
具体名词 + 具体动作,通常比空泛“随着发展”更高级。
68. Avoid “more and more” when a measurable trend exists | 趋势表达不要只靠 more and more
Chinese 越来越 constructions often become more and more, but advanced English has many alternatives when the trend can be classified.
- an increasing number of
- a growing proportion of
- has become increasingly common
- has risen steadily
- has expanded rapidly
Which one is correct depends on whether you are describing count, proportion, frequency, intensity or measured change.
这不是“高级同义词替换”,而是先判断趋势类型。
69. Avoid “nowadays” as a universal essay opener | nowadays 不是万能作文开头
Nowadays is a normal word, but repeatedly translating 当今社会 into generic openings weakens precision.
Instead of:
Nowadays, technology is developing rapidly.
State the relevant change:
Generative AI tools have become widely accessible to students and professionals since the early 2020s.
精准时间和具体变化,比空泛“当今社会”更有信息价值。
70. Avoid “people’s life” as a default translation of 生活 | 生活不是固定 people’s life
Chinese 生活 may refer to daily routines, living conditions, quality of life, personal lives, livelihoods or society more broadly.
- 改善生活 → improve quality of life / improve living conditions
- 日常生活 → daily life
- 个人生活 → personal life
- 维持生计 → make a living / protect livelihoods
先分类“生活”在这个句子里是什么,再选英语结构。
71. Grammar and vocabulary cannot be fully separated | 语法和词汇在高级阶段会融合
Some transfer errors look grammatical but are partly lexical:
- depend on — preposition belongs to the lexical pattern.
- responsible for doing — adjective + preposition + complement pattern.
- prevent somebody from doing — verb argument structure.
- suggest doing / suggest that… — complementation pattern.
这就是为什么高级学习要把 grammar 和 vocabulary 看成互相连接的系统。需要深入词汇模式时,进入高级词汇中文版;需要整体句子控制时,回到 How Grammar Becomes Sentence Control。
72. C1 grammar is high accuracy plus flexible formulation | C1 不是“零错误”,而是高准确度 + 灵活表达
The Council of Europe’s CEFR C1 qualitative descriptors describe a learner with a good command of a broad range of language, able to select formulations for general, academic, professional and leisure topics, while consistently maintaining a high degree of grammatical accuracy. Errors are described as rare and generally corrected when they occur.
CEFR C1 的目标不是“考试语法 100%”,而是能够从广泛语言资源中选择合适表达,同时保持高语法准确度;错误少,而且出现时通常能够修正。
That means advanced grammar training should include self-repair, reformulation and discourse—not only isolated multiple-choice questions.
所以,高级语法训练必须包含自我修正、改述和篇章,而不能只停留在单项选择题。
73. Mediation: bilingualism can become an advanced skill | Mediation:双语不是负担,也可以成为高级能力
In the CEFR, mediation is one of the four major modes of communication. It includes making meaning accessible, conveying information, collaborating and operating across linguistic or cultural barriers.
在 CEFR 中,mediation 是四大交际模式之一。它包括让意义变得可理解、传递信息、协作,以及跨语言和文化障碍帮助沟通。
For Mandarin-English learners, this creates a better goal than “stop thinking in Chinese forever”. The advanced goal is to move meaning accurately between linguistic systems without letting one system mechanically control the other.
对中英双语学习者来说,这比“永远不要用中文思考”更成熟。真正高级的目标,是让意义能够准确跨越两套语言系统,同时不让其中一套机械控制另一套。
74. A translator’s four loyalties | 翻译时要忠于四件事
- Meaning: What facts and relationships must survive?
- Function: What is the sentence trying to do?
- Audience: Who must understand or act?
- Target-language naturalness: How would English normally perform this job?
只忠于“原句词序”往往会背叛另外三项。
75. A 20-minute daily transfer routine | 每天 20 分钟跨语言重建训练
| Time | Task |
|---|---|
| 5 min | Choose two Chinese sentences from real life, work or study. |
| 5 min | Extract semantic kernels and relationships. |
| 5 min | Build English without looking at Chinese word order. |
| 5 min | Check subjects, tense/aspect, articles, reference and naturalness. |
每天只做两句,连续一个月,比一次翻译五十句却不分析迁移原因更有效。
76. A 45-minute deep-repair session | 45 分钟深度修复
| Time | Task | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| 10 min | Write/translate one 150–200 word passage. | baseline output |
| 10 min | Highlight translation-shaped sentences. | diagnosis |
| 10 min | Classify transfer: subject, tense, article, clause, reference, word order, collocation. | cause separation |
| 10 min | Rewrite without viewing the source. | English reconstruction |
| 5 min | Record one rule in the transfer corpus. | future prevention |
77. Seven-day reconstruction cycle | 七天重建循环
- Day 1: subjects and existential structures.
- Day 2: tense and aspect.
- Day 3: articles, countability and reference.
- Day 4: questions, negation and auxiliaries.
- Day 5: clauses, conjunctions and sentence boundaries.
- Day 6: relative clauses, modifiers and information order.
- Day 7: mixed translation + no-source rewrite + diagnosis.
一周不是为了“学完语法”,而是建立七种跨语言观察角度。
78. A 12-week Mandarin-to-English transfer progression | 12 周中英迁移路线
| Weeks | Focus | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| 1–2 | baseline + subject/topic + existential structure | error corpus + rewritten samples |
| 3–4 | tense/aspect + time reference | narrative and report samples |
| 5–6 | articles + countability + reference | edited academic/professional paragraphs |
| 7–8 | questions + negation + modality + conditionals | dialogue and interview tasks |
| 9–10 | relative clauses + modifier direction + information structure | long-form rewriting |
| 11–12 | full discourse reconstruction + mediation | bilingual summary, presentation and essay |
12 周结束时,目标不是“中文完全消失”,而是你越来越少需要依赖中文句法来生成英语。
79. Measurement: how do you know transfer is decreasing? | 怎么知道“翻译腔”真的在减少?
Track leading indicators:
- fewer missing subjects
- fewer tense errors despite explicit time words
- fewer article/countability errors
- fewer although…but / because…so double markers
- fewer vague this/it/they reference chains
- less overuse of “with the development of”, “nowadays”, “in terms of”
- more successful paraphrasing when one word is unavailable
- more than one natural English architecture for the same Chinese meaning
- faster English-first planning for familiar topics
这些指标比“我今天感觉英文更自然”更可靠。
80. The first weak link table | 第一个薄弱环节诊断表
| Symptom | Likely first weak link | Next repair |
|---|---|---|
| I omit subjects. | topic-comment transfer | mark subject + finite verb in every clause |
| I use time words but wrong verb forms. | tense conceptualisation | time-reference/aspect mapping |
| I know article rules but still miss them. | reference not automatic | identify first mention / identifiable / generic |
| I say “there have”. | 有 mapped to have | contrast possession vs existence |
| My writing has many comma splices. | clause-boundary transfer | mark finite clauses and logical relation |
| My sentences are grammatically correct but translated. | surface-form preservation | close source and rewrite from semantic kernel |
| I freeze without Chinese. | English planning route underdeveloped | English node planning + paraphrase practice |
| I use unnatural difficult words. | lexical depth/register | route to advanced vocabulary + Lesson 002 |
81. What not to do | 不要这样修翻译腔
- Do not ban Chinese completely. 中文是资源,不是敌人。
- Do not replace every Chinese-looking sentence with a memorised template. 不要用死模板覆盖真实理解。
- Do not fix only vocabulary. 很多翻译腔来自句法和信息结构。
- Do not learn tense only as names. 学时间关系和说话视角。
- Do not treat articles as random small words. 它们控制指代。
- Do not assume every learner error comes from Mandarin. 个体差异、教学经历、任务压力都会影响表现。
- Do not overcorrect natural bilingual identity. 目标是可懂、准确、自然和灵活,不是抹掉身份。
- Do not judge a sentence only by whether a native speaker can understand it. 高级目标还包括自然度、精准度和语域。
82. Research floor | 研究基础
This lesson uses current and established research as a floor, not as a substitute for individual diagnosis.
- Sun et al. (2026), International Journal of Applied Linguistics — L1 Mandarin speakers, cross-language transfer and English tense/aspect interpretation.
- Wei & Yoo (2026), From Twelve to Sixteen — analysis of tense-aspect frameworks in Chinese EFL grammar books and pedagogical implications.
- Xia & Pae (2025), Journal of English for Academic Purposes — English article use in formulaic sequences among Chinese learners using large learner corpora.
- European Journal of Education (2026) — corpus-based work on existential constructions and syntactic complexity in Chinese EFL writing.
- Council of Europe CEFR qualitative aspects — C1 grammatical accuracy, range, fluency, interaction and coherence.
- Council of Europe: Mediation — communication across linguistic/cultural barriers as an advanced language activity.
研究的作用不是告诉每一个中国学习者“你一定会犯这些错误”。研究的作用是告诉我们:哪些差异值得检查。真正的课程仍然要回到你的个人输出样本。

84. SEO language map | 本课搜索意图范围
This lesson naturally serves learners searching for English grammar for Chinese speakers, English for Mandarin speakers, Chinese to English grammar, stop translating Chinese into English, Chinese English grammar mistakes, advanced English grammar, C1 English grammar, C2 English grammar, Mandarin English transfer, English tense for Chinese speakers, English articles for Chinese speakers, English word order, English subject omission, English sentence structure, natural English for Chinese speakers, translationese, Chinglish grammar, how to think in English, how to translate Chinese to English naturally, 中文母语英语学习, 中式英语语法, 中译英语法, 高级英语语法, 英语时态, 英语冠词, 英语句子结构, 英语语序, 中文思维英语表达, 英语翻译腔 and 怎样摆脱中式英语.
“Chinglish” can be a common search term, but this course does not use it to mock learners. The pedagogical focus is precise: identify transfer, preserve meaning, reconstruct English.
“中式英语/Chinglish”可能是常见搜索词,但本课程不拿它嘲笑学习者。真正的教学任务是:发现迁移、保护意义、重建英语。
85. The one-page reconstruction system | 一页重建系统
- Understand the Chinese meaning. 先理解,不急着翻。
- Extract the semantic kernel. 拆出人物、动作、时间、关系、重点。
- Choose the English subject. 决定谁做语法主语。
- Choose the main finite verb. 建立主句核心。
- Set time and aspect. 处理时间参考点和事件视角。
- Build noun reference. 决定 a/the/zero、单复数、可数性。
- Build clause relationships. 处理因果、条件、让步、对比、目的。
- Set information focus. 决定什么先说、什么后说。
- Choose natural vocabulary and register. 不逐字翻词。
- Hide the source and rewrite. 最后让英文独立站起来。
86. Final assignment | 本课最终作业
Choose one Chinese paragraph of 120–200 Chinese characters from something real: a work message, news paragraph, study note, report or your own writing.
选择一段真实中文,120–200 字左右:工作信息、新闻段落、学习笔记、报告或你自己的文字都可以。
Do five versions:
- Literal draft: translate quickly so your normal transfer patterns appear.
- Diagnosis: mark subject, tense/aspect, article/reference, clause and word-order transfer.
- Semantic kernel: reduce the Chinese to bullet-point meaning.
- English rebuild: write again without looking at Chinese sentence order.
- Final calibration: check register, naturalness and precision using Lesson 002.
Then compare Draft 1 and Draft 4.
Ask one question:
Did my final English preserve the Chinese sentence, or preserve the Chinese meaning?
我的最终英文,是保留了中文“句子外形”,还是保留了中文真正的意思?
If the meaning survived while the English architecture changed, you are moving in the right direction.
如果意思完整保留,但英文建筑发生了变化——这正是高级跨语言能力开始成熟的地方。
Continue | 继续
Lesson No.004 takes the next step. Once English is no longer being mechanically assembled from Chinese grammar, the learner must learn to handle complex English ideas: read deeply, reconstruct arguments, distinguish evidence from implication, think clearly and write with precision.
第 004 课进入下一层。当英语不再机械复制中文语法后,学习者需要处理更复杂的英文思想:深度阅读、重建论证、区分证据与隐含意义、清晰思考,并把这些思考准确写出来。
Lesson No.004 · Read Deeply, Think Clearly, Write Precisely · 深度阅读、清晰思考、精准写作
