Build a C1–C2 Learning System | 建立 C1–C2 高级英语学习系统
Advanced English does not grow from “studying harder”. It grows from building a better learning system.
高级英语,不是靠“更用力地学”自动长出来的。它需要一套更好的学习系统。
If you are already an intermediate or advanced learner, you probably know this feeling. You can read. You can write. You can have conversations. You may have passed exams. You may use English at work. Yet the improvement that once came quickly now feels slow.
如果你已经达到中高级水平,你很可能熟悉这种感觉:你能读、能写、能交流,也许已经通过不少英语考试,甚至每天在工作中使用英语。但以前那种很明显的进步,突然变慢了。
The problem is often not effort. The problem is architecture.
问题往往不是努力不够,而是学习结构已经不适合你现在的水平。
At lower levels, almost any useful English can help because there are many large gaps to fill. At advanced levels, the gaps become narrower, more personal and harder to see. You may know a word but choose the wrong collocation. You may understand a grammar rule but lose control of it in a long paragraph. You may understand a podcast but miss the speaker’s stance. You may speak fluently but remain vague. You may write correctly but not persuasively. You may recognise sophisticated English yet fail to retrieve it when you need it.
在初级阶段,学习任何常用英语都可能带来明显收益,因为缺口很大。到了高级阶段,缺口会变得更窄、更个人化,也更难看见。你可能认识一个词,却不会正确搭配;知道语法规则,却在长段落中失控;听懂播客内容,却没听出说话人的立场;说得很流利,却不够精准;写得没错,却缺乏说服力;看到高级表达时认识,轮到自己说时却提取不出来。
So the first lesson is not “learn more English”. The first lesson is: build a system that tells you what to learn, why to learn it, how to practise it, how to test it, and when to return to it.
因此,第 001 课不是“再多学一些英语”。而是先建立一套系统,让你知道:学什么、为什么学、怎样练、怎样测试、什么时候再回来复习。
1. C1 and C2 are performance profiles, not decorations | C1、C2 不是标签,而是能力画像
The CEFR does not define advanced English as “using difficult words”. At C1, a learner can understand demanding longer texts, recognise implicit meaning, express ideas fluently, and use English flexibly for social, academic and professional purposes. At C2, the learner can understand almost everything heard or read, synthesise information from different sources, and express fine shades of meaning precisely.
CEFR 对高级英语的定义,并不是“会用难词”。C1 学习者应能够理解较难、较长的文本,识别隐含意义,较流畅地表达,并在社会、学术和专业场合灵活使用英语。C2 更进一步:能够理解几乎所有听到或读到的内容,整合不同来源的信息,并准确表达细微的意义差别。
That means advanced proficiency is a network of abilities. Reading alone is not enough. Vocabulary alone is not enough. Grammar alone is not enough. A real C1–C2 system must train reception, production, interaction and mediation.
| Mode | What it means | 高级学习者要做什么 |
|---|---|---|
| Reception | Reading and listening | 读懂复杂文本,听懂结构、立场和隐含意义 |
| Production | Writing and speaking | 清楚、准确、有结构地表达复杂思想 |
| Interaction | Real-time exchange | 回应、澄清、协商、转向、修正和保持对话 |
| Mediation | Making meaning accessible to others | 总结、转述、解释、综合不同来源、帮助别人理解 |
The Council of Europe’s newer CEFR descriptors also make mediation and online interaction explicit. This matters because modern advanced English is not only essay English. It includes explaining a difficult idea to a colleague, summarising a report, combining two sources, managing disagreement, writing in digital spaces and adapting language to different audiences.
新版 CEFR 还明确加入了 mediation(意义转述/调解)和 online interaction(线上互动)。这很重要,因为现代高级英语绝不只是“写作文”。它还包括:给同事解释复杂概念、总结报告、整合两个来源、处理分歧、在线交流,以及根据不同对象调整语言。
2. The first rule: diagnose before you add | 第一条规则:先诊断,再加内容
An advanced learner should not begin by asking, “Which book should I buy?” Begin by asking, “Where does my English first break?”
高级学习者不要先问:“我应该买哪本书?”先问:“我的英语最早在哪里开始失效?”
Prepare four baseline samples before changing your study plan:
- Reading sample: read one demanding article and write a 150-word summary without looking back.
- Listening sample: listen to a 10–15 minute interview or lecture once, then explain the argument aloud.
- Speaking sample: record a three-minute response to a serious question with no script.
- Writing sample: write 500–700 words on a topic you know well, under a reasonable time limit.
在改变学习计划之前,先做四个基线样本:一份高级阅读总结、一份听力复述、一段三分钟即兴口语,以及一篇限时 500–700 词写作。
Do not judge these samples with one score. Read them as evidence. Ask where the first weak link appears.
| Symptom | Possible first weak link | Next training move |
|---|---|---|
| I understand the text but cannot summarise it. | Structure / retrieval | Paragraph mapping + closed-book summary |
| I know many words but my writing sounds translated. | Collocation / register | Phrase collection + authentic examples |
| I can speak fast but repeat simple vocabulary. | Active lexical retrieval | Repeated speaking + forced reformulation |
| I make tense errors only in long writing. | Real-time grammatical control | Paragraph-level tense tracking |
| I understand individual sentences but lose the lecture. | Discourse tracking | Signposting + note structure |
| I read difficult material but miss tone. | Stance / pragmatics | Hedging, evaluation and implication analysis |
| I learn expressions but forget them. | Retrieval / spacing | Delayed recall and reuse |
This diagnostic principle connects to the wider eduKate Sengkang learning system: find the earliest failure that changes what happens afterwards. See How Learning Works | The eduKate Sengkang Mechanism Map and How Studying Works | Progressing to the Next Level.
3. Build one learning loop, not twenty disconnected habits | 建一个循环,不要堆二十个零散习惯
A powerful advanced-English system can be written as one loop:
Input → Notice → Retrieve → Transform → Use → Feedback → Return
输入 → 观察 → 提取 → 转换 → 使用 → 反馈 → 延时再回到它
Every serious study session should contain several parts of this loop. Passive exposure alone is not enough.
Input | 输入
Meet high-quality English through a text, lecture, conversation, report, essay, podcast or book. The input should be difficult enough to contain new language but understandable enough that you can follow the central meaning.
通过文章、讲座、对话、报告、随笔、播客或书籍接触高质量英语。材料要有挑战,但不能难到你完全失去主线。
Notice | 观察
Do not collect everything. Notice a small number of high-value features: a collocation, a sentence frame, a discourse marker, a pronunciation pattern, a grammatical choice, a way of qualifying a claim.
不要什么都抄。每次只抓少量高价值语言:一个搭配、一个句框、一个篇章标记、一个发音现象、一种语法选择,或者一种控制论断强度的方法。
Retrieve | 提取
Close the source. Try to recall the phrase, explain the idea or reconstruct the argument. Retrieval is where recognition begins to become usable knowledge.
合上原文,尝试回忆表达、解释观点、重建论证。提取,是把“看得懂”转化成“拿得出来用”的关键一步。
Transform | 转换
Change the context. Change the audience. Change the tense. Change the register. Compress the idea. Expand it. Say it more formally. Say it more simply.
改变场景、对象、时态和语域。把一段压成一句,也把一句展开成一段。用更正式的方式说,再用更简单的方式说。
Use | 使用
Put the new language into your own speaking or writing. If it never enters your output, it may remain passive knowledge.
把新语言放进自己的口语或写作。如果它从来没有进入你的输出,就很可能一直停留在被动认识阶段。
Feedback | 反馈
Check what broke. Was the phrase unnatural? Was the claim too strong? Was the grammar unstable? Did the listener misunderstand? Did the paragraph lose its centre?
检查哪里出了问题:搭配不自然?论断太绝对?语法不稳定?别人误解了?段落失去中心?
Return | 延时再回到它
Return after time has passed. If you can still retrieve and use the language tomorrow, next week and in a different context, it is becoming durable.
隔一段时间再回来。如果明天、下周、换一个话题后你仍然能提取和使用,这份语言才正在变成稳定能力。
4. Retrieval and spacing: advanced learning must survive time | 高级学习必须经得住时间
Rereading feels fluent because the material is in front of you. That feeling can be misleading. Research on retrieval practice has repeatedly shown that trying to recall information can strengthen later retention more than simply studying the same material again. Research on distributed practice also shows that spacing learning across time is generally better for long-term retention than massing all practice together.
重复阅读会让你产生“我很熟”的感觉,因为答案就在眼前。但这种熟悉感可能会欺骗你。关于 retrieval practice(提取练习)的研究显示,主动回忆往往比单纯重复阅读更有利于延迟后的记忆保持。distributed practice(分散练习)的研究也长期发现:把学习分散到不同时间,通常比一次性集中练习更利于长期保持。
This principle has direct value in second-language learning. A 2022 meta-analysis in Language Learning examined spaced practice across 48 second-language experiments and found meaningful benefits worth incorporating into language study design.
这个原则对第二语言学习也直接有用。2022 年《Language Learning》的一项元分析整合了 48 个第二语言实验,说明 spacing 值得被纳入语言学习系统。
- Same day: use the phrase in your own sentence.
- Next day: retrieve it without looking.
- 3–4 days later: use it in a different topic.
- 1–2 weeks later: check whether it still appears naturally in speech or writing.
- One month later: keep it only if it is useful enough to deserve long-term maintenance.
高级英语不需要把间隔复习变成复杂数学。只要建立一个实际可执行的“回来机制”:当天使用、第二天回忆、几天后换题使用、一两周后再测、一个月后判断是否值得长期保留。
5. The four inventories every advanced learner needs | 高级学习者需要四个清单
Inventory A: Active language | 主动可用语言
These are phrases and structures you can produce without help. They belong to you.
这些是你不看提示也能自然说出或写出的词块和结构。它们已经真正属于你。
Inventory B: Passive language | 被动认识语言
You understand them when reading or listening but rarely use them yourself.
你阅读或听力时认识,但自己几乎不会主动使用。
Inventory C: Repeated errors | 重复错误
These errors survive despite years of study: articles, countability, tense, prepositions, collocations, sentence boundaries, word choice, reference, pronunciation or register.
这些是学了很多年仍然反复出现的问题:冠词、可数不可数、时态、介词、搭配、句子边界、选词、指代、发音或语域。
Inventory D: Performance tasks | 真实任务
What must your English actually do? Write reports? Study at university? Lead meetings? Read research? Speak with clients? Give presentations? Discuss literature? Pass an advanced examination?
你的英语究竟要完成什么真实任务?写报告?大学学习?主持会议?读研究论文?面对客户?做演讲?讨论文学?参加高级考试?
Your curriculum should be built from the intersection of these four inventories.
真正适合你的高级英语课程,应该来自这四个清单的交叉,而不是来自一本书的目录。
6. Build a C1–C2 skill matrix | 建立 C1–C2 能力矩阵
Do not write “Reading: good” or “Speaking: bad”. That is too coarse. Break each skill into controllable parts.
| Area | Subskills to track | 可追踪的小能力 |
|---|---|---|
| Reading | gist, detail, inference, stance, structure, synthesis | 主旨、细节、推断、立场、结构、综合 |
| Listening | main line, reduced speech, attitude, turn shifts, note structure | 主线、弱读连读、态度、话轮变化、笔记结构 |
| Speaking | fluency, precision, reformulation, interaction, pronunciation | 流利、精准、改述、互动、发音 |
| Writing | argument, paragraph logic, cohesion, register, grammar, editing | 论证、段落逻辑、衔接、语域、语法、修改 |
| Vocabulary | collocation, register, connotation, word family, retrieval | 搭配、语域、色彩、词族、提取 |
| Grammar | tense/aspect, articles, clauses, reference, information structure | 时态体、冠词、从句、指代、信息结构 |
| Mediation | summarise, explain, compare sources, simplify, adapt | 总结、解释、比较来源、简化、适配对象 |
Once a month, mark each subskill Green, Amber or Red. Green means reliable under normal conditions. Amber means it works with time or support but breaks under pressure. Red means it repeatedly limits performance.
每月一次,把每个小能力标成绿、黄、红。绿色代表稳定;黄色代表有时间或有提示时可以,但压力下不稳定;红色代表它经常限制整体表现。
7. Your weekly system: one spine, many skills | 每周系统:一条主线,连接多个能力
A weak schedule gives every skill a separate day and turns English into six unrelated subjects. A stronger schedule uses one or two rich sources across several skills.
| Day | Main work | Connected skills |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | Read one demanding long-form article. | reading + vocabulary + argument |
| Tuesday | Closed-book summary + phrase retrieval. | writing + retrieval + vocabulary |
| Wednesday | Listen to a related interview or lecture. | listening + notes + pronunciation |
| Thursday | Record a 4-minute spoken explanation. | speaking + reformulation + fluency |
| Friday | Write a 600-word response or synthesis. | writing + grammar + register |
| Saturday | Feedback, correction, error corpus. | editing + diagnosis |
| Sunday | Delayed retrieval + light reading. | spacing + maintenance |
注意这个结构:一周不是七个新话题,而是同一条学习主线,从不同角度反复加工。
8. Three daily modes: 20, 45 and 90 minutes | 三种每日模式:20、45、90 分钟
20-minute maintenance mode | 20 分钟保温模式
- 5 min: retrieve old phrases.
- 5 min: read or listen to one short demanding segment.
- 5 min: speak a summary without notes.
- 5 min: repair one repeated error.
适合很忙的日子。目标不是大幅前进,而是保持高级英语系统处于活跃状态。
45-minute growth mode | 45 分钟增长模式
- 10 min: demanding input.
- 5 min: collect 3–5 high-value language items.
- 10 min: closed-book retrieval.
- 10 min: transform the language into a new context.
- 10 min: written or spoken output.
这是最实用的日常增长模式。输入不多,但每份输入都会经过提取和使用。
90-minute deep-work mode | 90 分钟深度训练模式
- 25 min: read/listen and map structure.
- 15 min: vocabulary, collocation and grammar noticing.
- 15 min: retrieval and oral explanation.
- 25 min: substantial output.
- 10 min: feedback, correction and logging.
90 分钟模式适合周末、大学学习者、专业人士或准备高水平考试的人。不要把 90 分钟全部变成“看材料”。至少三分之一时间应进入提取、转换或输出。
9. Build an input ladder | 建立输入阶梯
Advanced learners sometimes choose material that is either too easy or needlessly difficult. Build a ladder with four bands.
| Band | Difficulty | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Comfort | Very understandable | fluency, speed, pleasure |
| Growth | Mostly understandable with useful difficulty | main learning zone |
| Stretch | Hard but recoverable with tools | occasional challenge |
| Reference | Too difficult for normal reading | consult for specific needs only |
你的主要学习时间应该放在 Growth 区:大意能跟上,但有足够多的新语言、新结构和新思想值得学习。Comfort 区帮助流利度,Stretch 区偶尔挑战,Reference 区只在真正需要时查阅。
Difficulty is useful only when it creates productive work. Difficulty that destroys comprehension is not automatically “advanced”.
10. Vocabulary system: collect behaviour, not translations | 词汇系统:记录“词怎么行动”,不只记翻译
For every advanced word or phrase worth keeping, record five things:
- Meaning: what does it mean in this context?
- Collocation: what naturally appears around it?
- Register: conversational, neutral, formal, academic, technical?
- Grammar: what pattern follows it?
- Personal use: where would you actually use it?
| Weak note | Strong advanced note |
|---|---|
| mitigate = 缓解 | mitigate risk / mitigate the impact / measures designed to mitigate; formal; verb + noun |
| robust = 强大的 | robust evidence / robust system / robust debate; meaning changes by field |
| account = 账户 / 解释 | account for / take into account / by all accounts / a detailed account of |
高级词汇不是“更难的中文对应词”。真正的高级词汇知识包含搭配、语域、语法模式、感情色彩、领域差异和实际使用。
11. Grammar system: track failure in real writing | 语法系统:在真实输出中追踪失效
Advanced grammar practice should begin from actual performance. A learner who gets 95% correct on isolated exercises may still lose control while writing a complex argument.
高级语法训练应该从真实表现开始。一个人在单项语法练习里可能 95% 正确,但写复杂论证时仍然大量失控。
After every substantial piece of writing, mark errors by family:
- articles
- countability
- tense and aspect
- subject–verb agreement
- prepositions
- clause boundaries
- relative clauses
- reference
- parallel structure
- word form
- collocation
- register
Then calculate nothing more complicated than frequency. Which three categories keep returning? Those become your grammar curriculum for the next month.
然后只做一个简单统计:哪三类问题反复回来?它们就是你下个月的语法课程,而不是从语法书第一页重新学。
For the wider mechanism behind subject-specific study choices, see How Subject-Specific Studying Works | Choosing the Right Work for English, Mathematics and Science.
12. Reading system: read ideas, structure and language separately | 阅读系统:分开读思想、结构和语言
Read the same demanding text in three passes.
- Pass 1 — Meaning: What is the writer saying?
- Pass 2 — Structure: How is the argument built?
- Pass 3 — Language: Which choices are worth learning?
第一遍读意思,第二遍读结构,第三遍读语言。不要在第一次阅读时同时查每个词、分析每个从句、研究每个搭配。那会破坏主线。
After the third pass, close the text and answer four questions:
- What is the central claim?
- What are the two strongest pieces of support?
- Where does the writer qualify or limit the claim?
- What language pattern would I like to reuse?
This creates a bridge from comprehension to synthesis. Advanced reading becomes useful when you can reconstruct the argument, not merely remember facts.
13. Listening system: listen for structure before detail | 听力系统:先听结构,再追细节
When listening to a lecture or long interview, do not chase every unknown word. Track four things: the main position, the major divisions in the argument, changes of stance, and examples or evidence.
听长材料时,不要每遇到生词就停。先跟住主张、论证的几个大部分、立场变化以及例子和证据。
Use transcripts diagnostically. If the transcript is easy but the audio is hard, the problem may be sound recognition, reduction, linking, stress or processing speed rather than vocabulary.
文字稿是诊断工具。如果文字稿看起来很简单,但音频却很难,问题可能不在词汇,而在声音识别、弱读连读、重音或处理速度。
14. Speaking system: repeat the same task and improve it | 口语系统:同一个任务重复三次
Constantly changing topics feels interesting but hides learning. Repeating the same speaking task lets you see improvement.
- Speak for three minutes without notes.
- Listen to the recording.
- Mark vague words, repeated words and broken sentences.
- Look up three better collocations or sentence frames.
- Speak again immediately.
- Wait 24–48 hours.
- Speak a third time without notes.
第一次主要测试你现在能做什么;第二次加入修复;第三次检查修复是否开始进入自动化。
Do not chase speed. Track hesitation location. A pause before a key noun may signal vocabulary retrieval. A pause at the beginning of every sentence may signal planning. A pause after a grammar error may signal monitoring overload.
15. Writing system: build, diagnose, rebuild | 写作系统:写、诊断、重建
One draft is performance. Two drafts can become learning.
写一稿,只能证明“你现在能写到哪里”。写完诊断再重建,才真正开始学习。
- Write the first draft under realistic conditions.
- Underline the main claim in each paragraph.
- Circle vague nouns and weak verbs.
- Check sentence-to-sentence logic.
- Check the top three personal grammar errors.
- Check collocations around important concepts.
- Delete repetition that adds no meaning.
- Add qualification where claims are too broad.
- Rewrite the weakest paragraph without copying the original.
高级写作的目标不是不断加复杂句,而是让读者始终知道:你在说什么、为什么这样说、证据是什么、限制在哪里、下一步为什么合理。
16. Pronunciation system: train information, not accent identity | 发音系统:训练信息传递,不是抹掉身份
For Mandarin-speaking learners, advanced pronunciation should focus on intelligibility, rhythm and information structure. You do not need to erase a Chinese accent.
- final consonants
- consonant clusters
- word stress
- sentence stress
- weak forms
- linking
- thought groups
- contrastive stress
- intonation for certainty, politeness and disagreement
要录完整表达,而不只是练单个音素。高级发音的任务,是让意义在真实语流中仍然能被可靠地传递。
17. Mediation: the advanced skill many learners forget | Mediation:很多学习者忽略的高级能力
The CEFR Companion Volume treats mediation as a major mode of language use. In practical terms, mediation means making meaning usable for somebody else.
- Explain a technical idea to a non-specialist.
- Summarise a long report for a manager.
- Compare two sources and show the disagreement.
- Translate the meaning of a Chinese concept into natural English without translating every word.
- Help two people understand a misunderstanding.
- Turn a dense paragraph into three clear bullet points.
- Turn three bullet points into a coherent explanation.
这对中英双语学习者尤其重要。两种语言可以成为你的认知资源。目标不是让英语模仿中文,也不是让中文模仿英语,而是让意义能够准确地在两个系统之间移动。
18. Mandarin-to-English transfer: build a watchlist | 建立“中译英迁移观察表”
Do not assume every difficulty comes from Mandarin. But keep a personal watchlist for areas where the two systems differ enough to create recurring errors.
| Area | Watch for | 检查什么 |
|---|---|---|
| Articles | a / an / the / zero article | 听者是否能确定所指对象?名词类别是什么? |
| Countability | information, advice, research, evidence | 是否错误加入 a/an 或复数 |
| Tense/aspect | past, perfect, progressive relations | 是否只靠时间词,不在动词上标记关系 |
| Subjects | missing or vague subjects | 中文可省略的主语,英语是否需要明确 |
| Topic structure | long topic-first sentences | 英语主语、动词和信息重点是否清楚 |
| Collocation | word-for-word combinations | 每个词都对,但组合是否自然 |
| Plurality | general vs specific plural reference | 泛指和具体所指是否清楚 |
| Pronunciation | final consonants, clusters, stress | 声音差异是否影响可懂度 |
Lesson No.003 will deal with this in depth. For now, simply begin recording your own repeated transfer patterns.
19. Build a personal error corpus | 建立个人错误语料库
Your error corpus is more valuable than a generic list of “common mistakes” because it contains evidence from your own English.
| Date | Original | Repair | Category | Rule / pattern | New example |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 12 Sep | bring a big influence | have a major impact | collocation | have an impact on | The change had a major impact on access. |
| 12 Sep | many evidences | much evidence / several pieces of evidence | countability | evidence is normally uncountable | There is strong evidence for the claim. |
| 12 Sep | Although…, but… | Although…, … | clause linking | do not double-mark contrast | Although the method is useful, it has limits. |
Review the corpus weekly. When one category stops appearing for several weeks, reduce its priority. When a new category starts to repeat, promote it.
20. Use feedback like a scientist | 把反馈当作数据,不要当作评价
“Good job” is pleasant but weak feedback. “Your argument is clear, but your claims become too absolute in paragraphs 3 and 4” is useful feedback.
Ask for feedback in categories: meaning, structure, precision, grammar, collocation, register, pronunciation and interaction.
一次只修少量高价值问题。纠正太多,会把反馈变成噪音。
21. A tutor should change the system, not replace the learner | 老师应该改变系统,而不是替学习者完成学习
At advanced level, the best teacher is not simply a source of explanations. A teacher or tutor should help diagnose, select the next task, model expert decisions, give targeted feedback and gradually return control to the learner.
到了高级阶段,最好的老师不只是“讲解答案的人”。老师更重要的任务是诊断、选择下一步任务、示范专家决策、提供针对性反馈,并逐渐把控制权交还给学习者。
See The Tutor Handbook Vol No.0007 | Learning Architect and How Learning From Expert Modelling Works.
22. Track leading indicators, not only test scores | 不要只盯考试分数
Scores are useful but slow. Track smaller indicators that move earlier.
- How many target phrases can you retrieve after one week?
- How many repeated error categories are shrinking?
- Can you speak longer before losing structure?
- Can you summarise a difficult text with fewer distortions?
- Can you use more precise verbs and nouns without forcing them?
- Can you change register for different audiences?
- Can you revise a paragraph faster?
- Can you understand more natural speech without transcript support?
分数是滞后指标。更小的变化往往先出现:一周后还能提取多少词块、重复错误是否减少、口语结构能保持多久、总结是否更少失真、改写速度是否提高、听力对文字稿的依赖是否下降。
23. The monthly benchmark | 每月做一次基准测试
Every four weeks, repeat the four baseline tasks with different material of similar difficulty:
- advanced reading + closed-book summary
- long listening + oral explanation
- three-minute unscripted speaking
- 500–700 word timed writing
Do not ask only, “Did the score go up?” Ask: What became easier? What became faster? What became more precise? Which old error disappeared? Which new bottleneck became visible?
高级阶段经常出现一种情况:总分变化不大,但内部结构已经改变。例如词汇提取更快了,语法稳定了,于是原本被遮住的论证问题开始显现。这不是退步,而是新的瓶颈终于暴露出来。
24. How to respond to a plateau | 平台期怎么处理?
When progress feels flat, do not immediately add more hours. Run four checks.
- Input check: Is the material still challenging enough?
- Retrieval check: Are you actively recalling or only rereading?
- Transfer check: Are you using language in new contexts?
- Feedback check: Are repeated errors actually being tracked and repaired?
如果进入平台期,不要第一反应就是“每天再加一小时”。先检查材料是否过易、是否只有输入没有提取、是否缺少迁移、反馈是否真正进入修复循环。
See The Tutor Handbook Vol No.0025 | The Plateau.
25. The 30-day C1–C2 launch | 30 天启动计划
| Days | Main work | Target |
|---|---|---|
| 1–3 | Four baseline samples | diagnosis |
| 4–7 | Build skill matrix + error corpus | personal curriculum |
| 8–14 | One rich source across reading, speaking and writing | integrated learning loop |
| 15–21 | Phrase retrieval + grammar repair + repeated speaking | active control |
| 22–27 | Longer listening + synthesis writing | complex processing |
| 28–30 | Repeat benchmark and compare | system correction |
The goal of the first 30 days is not to “reach C2”. The goal is to make your learning system visible and testable.
26. A 12-week progression | 12 周进阶路线
| Weeks | Priority | Evidence to produce |
|---|---|---|
| 1–2 | Diagnosis and learning architecture | baseline portfolio |
| 3–4 | Collocation, register, phrase retrieval | active phrase set + speaking samples |
| 5–6 | Grammar control in extended output | revised paragraphs + error trends |
| 7–8 | Deep reading and argument structure | annotated texts + summaries |
| 9–10 | Listening, pronunciation and reformulation | recorded retellings |
| 11–12 | Synthesis and transfer | long essay/report + presentation |
Then start another cycle with harder material and narrower targets. Advanced learning is iterative.
27. What not to do | 高级英语阶段不要这样学
- Do not collect 50 new words a day with no reuse. 不要每天抄 50 个新词却不使用。
- Do not confuse difficult material with effective material. 不要把“很难”误当成“很有效”。
- Do not restart general grammar from page one unless diagnosis justifies it. 不要无诊断地重新从语法书第一页开始。
- Do not watch hours of English and call all of it study. 不要把几小时被动观看全部算作学习。
- Do not correct every mistake at once. 不要一次修所有错误。
- Do not chase native-like accent as the main goal. 不要把“像母语者口音”当第一目标。
- Do not use Chinese translation as the final production method. 不要让中文翻译成为最终输出方式。
- Do not change resources every week. 不要每周换一套课程和教材。
- Do not measure progress only by feelings. 不要只凭“今天感觉学得很好”判断进步。
- Do not make complexity your style. 不要把复杂本身当成高级。
28. Build a small resource stack | 资源不要多,建立一个小而稳定的工具栈
You need fewer resources than you think.
- One learner dictionary: Oxford or Cambridge.
- One vocabulary source: a C1–C2 vocabulary/collocation book.
- One grammar reference: an advanced learner grammar.
- One serious reading stream: quality journalism, nonfiction or your professional field.
- One serious listening stream: interviews, lectures or podcasts with transcripts.
- One notebook or database: phrases + errors + benchmarks.
- One feedback source: teacher, tutor, peer or reliable correction tool used critically.
高级阶段最容易出现资源过载。真正重要的不是“收藏了多少课程”,而是同一套资源是否进入了输入、提取、转换、使用、反馈和复习循环。
29. Recommended official learning routes | 官方高级学习入口
- British Council LearnEnglish | C1 Advanced
- Cambridge English | C1 Advanced Preparation
- Council of Europe | CEFR Descriptors
- Council of Europe | Mediation
- Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary
- Cambridge Dictionary
These are reference points, not a complete curriculum. Use them to calibrate level, check language and source practice material.
30. Research floor for the learning system | 这套学习系统的研究基础
The learning architecture in this lesson is consistent with several well-established findings from cognitive and language-learning research:
- Roediger & Karpicke (2006), Test-Enhanced Learning — retrieval can strengthen delayed retention.
- Cepeda et al. (2006), Distributed Practice in Verbal Recall Tasks — spacing effects across verbal learning research.
- Dunlosky et al. (2013), Improving Students’ Learning With Effective Learning Techniques — practice testing and distributed practice received high-utility assessments in their review.
- Kim & Webb (2022), The Effects of Spaced Practice on Second Language Learning — meta-analysis of spaced practice in L2 learning.
- Council of Europe CEFR framework — advanced language as reception, production, interaction and mediation rather than vocabulary alone.
研究不是为了让学习变复杂,而是帮助我们删掉低价值动作,把时间放在更可能产生长期变化的地方。
