To get from Sengkang to Singapore EXPO by MRT, take the North East Line towards HarbourFront to Chinatown, change to the Downtown Line towards Expo, and alight at Expo (DT35/CG1). This requires one MRT interchange. For Singapore EXPO Halls 1–6, SBS Transit lists station Exit A; for Halls 7–10, use Exit C. For Changi City Point and offices in Changi Business Park, other Expo station exits may be closer.
A successful Sengkang-to-Expo journey is not simply ‘take the blue line’. Singapore EXPO is a large exhibition complex with different foyers and halls. Changi Business Park is a neighbouring business district, not a hall inside the EXPO grounds. Changi City Point is a separate shopping mall. The last walk from the train is therefore a different journey for an exhibition visitor, an office worker and a family going shopping.
This guide uses the official 2026 station-exit and Singapore EXPO visitor information to show the route, the right destination, alternate bus service 118, safe return planning and realistic budgeting, with no invented universal taxi fare or journey time.
Sengkang to Expo: quick route and correct exit
- From Sengkang MRT: North East Line (NE16) towards HarbourFront → Chinatown (NE4/DT19) → Downtown Line towards Expo → Expo (DT35).
- Singapore EXPO Halls 1–6: use Expo MRT Exit A according to SBS Transit’s station information; confirm your exact foyer and hall.
- Singapore EXPO Halls 7–10: use Exit C and follow venue signage to Foyer 3 and the correct hall.
- Changi City Point shopping mall: station Exits B, D, E or F are listed for this vicinity; verify the most convenient open exit for your store or pickup.
- Changi Business Park offices: check your building’s own access instructions; Expo station Exits D and G serve multiple business-park buildings.
- Changi Airport is not Expo: the stations are different. Expo CG1 is on the Changi Airport branch; Changi Airport CG2 is another station.
- For buses: the venue lists stops serving separate foyers; service 118 links Punggol with Changi Business Park via Expo, but does not substitute for a direct bus from every part of Sengkang.
| Destination | Useful MRT exit / arrival | Final action |
|---|---|---|
| Singapore EXPO Halls 1–3 / Foyer 1 | Expo MRT Exit A | Follow Halls 1–3 and Foyer 1 signs |
| Singapore EXPO Halls 4–6 / Foyer 2 | Expo MRT Exit A | Check the specific hall and foyer entrance |
| Singapore EXPO Halls 7–10 / Foyer 3 | Expo MRT Exit C | Follow Halls 7–10; allow additional walking time |
| Changi City Point | Expo MRT Exit B, D, E or F | Follow mall signage; entrances differ |
| Changi Business Park office towers | Expo MRT Exit D or G may be relevant | Use company’s exact building, block and reception address |
| Changi Airport terminal | Not Expo’s exhibition exits | Continue on correct airport connection or refer to dedicated airport route |
Step by step: North East Line and Downtown Line to Expo
- At Sengkang MRT (NE16), board the North East Line towards HarbourFront. Those starting from Anchorvale, Fernvale, Compassvale or Rivervale LRT stops should first reach Sengkang Town Centre.
- Alight at Chinatown (NE4/DT19), a two-line interchange, and follow signs for the Downtown Line.
- Board the Downtown Line in the direction of Expo. Do not take a westbound blue-line train towards Bukit Panjang.
- Remain on the Downtown Line to its eastern terminus, Expo (DT35). Check that the train’s destination display confirms Expo if service patterns change.
- At Expo station, use the exit that matches the appointment or attraction. Exit A for Halls 1–6, Exit C for Halls 7–10, and the appropriate business-park or mall exit for other destinations.
- To return, board the Downtown Line towards Bukit Panjang, alight at Chinatown and transfer to the North East Line towards Punggol Coast for Sengkang (NE16).
The major advantage is a single transfer at Chinatown rather than juggling several EWL branches. A first-time visitor may prefer that reliability even if another route appears marginally shorter in a travel app. The rail leg is only the first part of an event arrival: allow time for ticket scanning, hall registration, bag checks and the walk to the correct entrance.
Why Halls 1–3, 4–6 and 7–10 change the best route
Singapore EXPO’s visitor guidance divides access into Foyer 1 for Halls 1–3, Foyer 2 for Halls 4–6, and Foyer 3 for Halls 7–10. An exhibitor carrying presentation materials may have to use an assigned loading or event entrance that differs from the public entry. A ticket for ‘Singapore EXPO’ is insufficient to identify that final point.
The venue’s transport page lists bus 12, 24 and 38 for areas serving Halls 1–6, and gives separate options for Foyer 3 and Halls 7–10, including stops along Somapah Road and Changi South Avenue 2. SBS Transit’s station information is especially useful because it lists Exit A for Halls 1–6 and Exit C for Halls 7–10. Use both the event admission instructions and the official building map.
The difference can be meaningful during an exam, hiring fair or timed ticket experience. Imagine two friends arranging to ‘meet at the Expo MRT exit’. One goes to Exit A for Hall 2, and the other to Exit C for Hall 9. Both are at the correct MRT station and neither is at the agreed meeting point. State the hall, foyer, level and landmark before setting off.
Changi Business Park is not the same as Singapore EXPO
Changi Business Park contains many offices and business facilities around the Expo transport node. Some are near station Exit D; SBS Transit lists business-park destinations including DBS Asia Hub, Eightrium, IBM Place, Plaza8 and The Signature. Other buildings may require a longer walk or a bus stop away from the station.
For a job interview, ‘Changi Business Park’ on its own is an incomplete address. Confirm the employer name, block number, street, building and visitor-reception instructions. A station can be the right one even when the last fifteen minutes on foot are wrong. Building security may also require photo identification or registration, so include that in your arrival buffer.
If your office is far from the station, Singapore EXPO’s own guidance lists bus 20 and 118 at the Expo Station Exit B bus stop. Those may help with selected last-leg journeys, but the appropriate service and direction depend on the exact building. Do not board a bus simply because its number appears on a station map; check your desired alighting stop first.
Changi City Point: a shopping trip uses a different exit
Changi City Point lies next to the Expo MRT station but is separate from the exhibition centre. SBS Transit lists it in the vicinity of Exits B, D, E and F. If your purpose is shopping, a meal or meeting someone at the mall, choose the mall entrance rather than walking into the expo grounds and then turning back.
For a parent with a stroller or an elderly relative, confirm which lift reaches the accessible route to the intended side of the station. SBS Transit identifies lifts at Expo station Exits A, C, D and E in its station information. A barrier-free route is not always the shortest line on a digital map, and some nearby crossings may be exposed during thunderstorms.
Another possible route: East–West airport branch and Expo CG1
Expo is an interchange between the Downtown Line (DT35) and the Changi Airport branch of the East–West Line (CG1). A traveller already on the EWL can switch at Tanah Merah to a train serving Expo and Changi Airport. That is useful for somebody beginning the trip elsewhere in Singapore or continuing to the airport, but it may require more rail changes for a person originating at Sengkang MRT.
An easy mistake is to see ‘Expo CG1’ and conclude that it is on a main EWL through service to Jurong East. The airport branch has its own train service pattern; always follow platform destination boards. If the main purpose is a flight rather than an exhibition, use our separate Sengkang to Changi Airport guide and leave time for terminal transfers and airline check-in.
Is bus 118 a useful alternative from the northeast?
Service 118, operated by Go-Ahead Singapore, runs between Punggol Interchange and Changi Business Park Terminal, with stops including Singapore EXPO and Expo station Exit B. It is a real northeast-to-Expo bus option, but it does not mean there is a direct 118 boarding stop at every Sengkang address. You may first need to reach Punggol Interchange, for example by the NEL one stop north from Sengkang.
SimplyGo’s current eGuide shows 118 running daily, with the first departure from each end listed at 5:45am and last departure at 11:30pm. These are terminal departure times, not times at Expo; traffic, direction and bus-stop location affect your actual journey. Verify the schedule for your stop and the live bus-arrival display.
| 118 or train? | Bus 118 from Punggol | NEL + Downtown Line from Sengkang |
|---|---|---|
| Starting point | Punggol Interchange, requires getting there from many Sengkang homes | Sengkang MRT / LRT town centre |
| Destination | Singapore EXPO, Expo Station Exit B, Changi Business Park terminal | Expo MRT DT35; exit selected for hall or office |
| Transfers | May need train or bus to reach Punggol | One MRT interchange at Chinatown |
| Traffic exposure | Road conditions affect arrival | Rail service disruptions and crowding affect arrival |
| Best use | When the 118 stop aligns with your Changi Business Park destination | General Expo exhibition, mall and office travel |
The bus can be useful for certain office buildings and workers near Punggol, but for a visitor who starts at Sengkang MRT and is going to Hall 2 at EXPO, the NEL–DTL route has a clearer set of decisions and less road exposure. Use actual live journey information before choosing.
Taxi, car and parking: calculate the actual event cost
A taxi or private-hire car is attractive when carrying exhibition equipment, travelling with a group or arriving at an awkward hour. The booking must identify Foyer 1, Foyer 2 or the correct event entrance, not just ‘Expo’. Singapore EXPO lists taxi stands at Foyer 1 and Foyer 2 and dedicated private-hire pickup and drop-off points.
For drivers, Singapore EXPO describes the site as connected to the ECP, PIE and TPE corridors. Parking is available, but costs may become significant during long exhibitions. On the venue’s current published schedule, car parking is charged separately for the first two hours and subsequent half-hour periods. As prices and event restrictions can change, use the official venue rate notice rather than an outdated blog total.
With a large family, it may be sensible to take MRT out and a booked vehicle home after a long day. That decision is different from claiming a car is always faster. Road congestion and peak-hour pickup queues can add uncertainty, especially after a major trade show or concert.
Important if you’re attending an exam, job fair or conference
- Read the admission document. It usually names a hall, gate, foyer or registration desk.
- Build a door-to-desk itinerary. Your arrival is at the correct room or registration desk, not the moment your train reaches Expo.
- Check ticket and bag rules. Large events may have security screening and separate queues.
- Know the event’s finish. Singapore EXPO’s general site hours are not a guarantee that every event begins or ends at the same time.
- Plan crowd dispersal. A mass exit from several halls can create long queues at fare gates, pickup areas and bus stops.
- Keep an accessible alternative. For wheelchair users and strollers, select lift-equipped exits and confirm the venue’s barrier-free entrance.
- Share an exact meetup point. ‘At Expo’ is not enough when there are many halls and foyers.
The 2026 Sengkang morning rail fare rule
LTA introduced a scheme from 27 December 2025 that provides eligible free first-rail-trip travel when commuters tap in at Sengkang or the other qualifying northeast rail stations before 7:30am or between 9:00am and 9:45am on weekdays, excluding public holidays. Sengkang is inside the six eligible NEL stations from Kovan to Punggol Coast; Sengkang–Punggol LRT origins also qualify under the published rules.
That can help an early commuter to Changi Business Park, but it is not a guarantee of free travel for a person who taps in at 8am or travels on a Saturday. The scheme concerns the first rail trip of a journey and requires the same supported payment method to tap in and out. A bus or taxi leg must be budgeted separately unless its own conditions provide a different benefit.
Three Sengkang-to-Expo situations
A parent and child attending a weekend science exhibition
They check that the event is in Hall 3 and use the NEL to Chinatown, Downtown Line to Expo and Exit A to the appropriate foyer. They avoid unnecessary bus transfers. Their return plan includes enough time to buy a snack and manage crowding, rather than assuming the end of the show will be the train departure time.
A student attending an education fair in Halls 7–10
The student saves the confirmation email, travels to Expo and takes Exit C. They check the correct foyer and registration table before entering. That simple habit separates the known facts—the station and hall—from guesses about which entrance a crowd might be using.
An employee attending an interview in Changi Business Park
The employee confirms the building and reception address, checks whether Expo Exit D or G serves the office, and compares the final walk with bus 118 or a suitable private-hire drop-off. The best decision may be different from someone heading to an exhibition two blocks away. A plan for the last 400 metres can prevent a missed interview even when the train is on time.
