Did you know that Compassvale Cape has two separate 2017 milestones worth noticing? HDB’s awards record lists a construction Certificate of Merit, while a later playground release records completion of its maritime-themed playground in March 2017.
Compassvale Cape history brings together two sides of neighbourhood design: the work of constructing homes and the storytelling built into shared spaces. They belong in the same local story, but they are different kinds of achievement.
This guide follows the official historical records and offers a short family reading activity. Award recognition and a past playground description do not establish present equipment condition or access.

HDB’s 4 September 2017 release lists Compassvale Cape under construction Certificates of Merit, naming Qingjian International (South Pacific) Group Development Co., Pte Ltd as the contractor. The release announced the awards ceremony for 6 September.
The contractor’s own account, dated 18 September 2017, reports receiving the Certificate of Merit at that ceremony. It supplies a second record from a participant in the event.
Notice the exact category. A construction certificate should not become a design award through abbreviated retelling. In a history notebook, keep the project name, award category, organisation and year together.
The recognition is a historical milestone. It is not a substitute for checking a particular building’s present condition.
HDB’s April 2018 thematic-playground release locates Compassvale Cape’s playground between Blocks 286C and 287A Compassvale Crescent and gives March 2017 as its completion month.
The recorded features include a ship-shaped climbing structure, sea-creature play equipment, blue flooring suggesting water and a storyboard encouraging seafaring role play.
That document lets us discuss the intended theme without inventing an old shipwreck at the site. A playful ship represents an idea; it is not archaeological evidence.
For a child, ask which clue carries the theme most clearly. Is it the shape, colour, accompanying text or a combination? Comparing these possibilities is a gentle introduction to how design communicates.
March 2017 refers to the playground’s recorded completion. September 2017 refers to the awards records. April 2018 refers to the playground release describing an earlier completed feature.
Draw three boxes on paper and put one event in each. Then ask which source was published after the event it describes. This helps a young researcher resist treating every publication date as an opening date.
Try two captions for a drawing of an imaginary ship-themed playground. One can state the visible feature; the other can explain what it might represent. Mark the second as interpretation unless an accompanying source confirms the meaning.
If you explore the area, follow current signs and check the space before use. Respect residents’ homes and other families’ privacy. A short observation from a permitted common area is enough to begin a good conversation about how everyday places carry stories.
