Did you know that Fernvale Rivergrove’s September 2011 BTO information included studio apartments as well as three-, four- and five-room flats? The HDB annex recorded 1,728 homes across those categories.
Fernvale Rivergrove history gives us a snapshot of a Sengkang neighbourhood before its plans became everyday routines. The document locates the development along Sengkang West Way, Fernvale Link and Fernvale Street.
This guide reads the old annex as a planning record, with its own terminology and date. It also shows how families can use a housing document to practise careful reading, mapping and arithmetic.

The annex lists 100 studio apartments, 484 three-room flats, 892 four-room flats and 252 five-room flats. Together, they total 1,728. It describes Fernvale Rivergrove as a standard contract in the September 2011 exercise.
The document also names planned everyday facilities: a supermarket, eating house, shops, Residents’ Committee centre, childcare centre and education centre.
These are launch-era statements. They establish what the annex presented, rather than the opening date or current operator of each facility. The copy linked below is an HDB document preserved on a third-party website; that hosting distinction belongs in any research notes.
Imagine a family making three separate journeys: buying food, taking a child to an activity and returning home. A useful neighbourhood map connects those journeys instead of showing only the outlines of residential blocks.
Use the listed facility types to draw an imaginary neighbourhood. Place homes, a food stop and a childcare stop on your sketch, then connect them with walking routes. Label the sketch as your own model. It is not Fernvale Rivergrove’s official site plan.
Now move one facility farther away. Which journey changes? Which household might notice the change most? There is no need to guess how actual residents feel; the activity simply makes distance and daily sequence easier to discuss.
An old launch document gives you the planned ingredients. Understanding everyday life also requires attention to the connections among them.
Check the total using two groups: 100 + 484 = 584, while 892 + 252 = 1,144. Then 584 + 1,144 = 1,728. A second arrangement of the calculation is a useful way to catch a copied digit.
Ask what the calculation proves. It checks that the four listed categories add to the stated total. It does not prove when the flats were completed, how many people lived there or whether every planned facility was delivered exactly as described.
Historical labels also deserve care. Keep “studio apartments” as the term used in this record rather than substituting a different present-day flat category.
For an outing, continue into the Fernvale neighbourhood guide and follow current access information. From public areas, a child can note one observed route and compare it with the idea of a connected neighbourhood. Date the observation: today’s photograph and a 2011 proposal record two different moments.
