Want to reserve a book for a Sengkang library visit? NLB lets members place reservations through its catalogue, NLB Mobile app or library catalogue stations. Check the pickup location offered for your item before confirming.
NLB’s current guidance gives a physical-item reservation fee of $1.58 including GST, except for members with Accessible Membership. Once allocated, a reservation must be collected within three days of notification; outstanding charges must be cleared.
A reservation can help you plan for a particular title, but it is not a promise that the book will be ready for this weekend. Here is how to make the process fit your reading plans.
Choose your reading route
Identify the exact book you want · Read the reservation details before confirming · Wait for the allocation notice · Keep reading while you wait
Identify the exact book you want
Search by title and author, then check the language, format and edition. A familiar cover is useful, but it should not replace checking the actual catalogue record.
For a child following a series, check the volume number. Reserving the next story is more satisfying than discovering that the delivered-to-library book is one they have already read.
If an edition matters for schoolwork, compare the details with the teacher’s instructions. Two books with similar titles may have different contents or numbering.
Read the reservation details before confirming
Check the pickup choice and current terms in your account. Choose a location you can realistically reach within the collection window rather than one that looks convenient only on a map.
NLB states that reservation fees remain payable for uncollected reservations and that cancellation is possible before allocation. Use the current account controls if your reading plans change.
Reserve thoughtfully instead of placing several requests simply because they are available. A small set of wanted titles is easier to collect and read.
Wait for the allocation notice
Check email or NLB Mobile notifications for the allocation message. A request being recorded and an item being ready are different stages.
Once notified, read the exact collection information and plan the trip promptly. Do not rely on a remembered pickup arrangement from a different library.
Bring what the collection instructions require and check current library access details. Our Sengkang Public Library guide offers the local visit overview.
Keep reading while you wait
Let the reservation sit alongside other reading rather than putting all reading on hold. Choose an available book on a similar theme or continue something already borrowed.
For children, explain the wait as part of sharing a collection: another reader may be enjoying the title now. Keep anticipation cheerful without promising a specific arrival date.
If getting to a library is the main difficulty, read our NLB home-delivery guide for Sengkang residents. Delivery and reservation are separate services with different conditions.
