Timestamp Is the Audio Equivalent of a Page Coordinate
For long recordings, “somewhere in the middle” is not a usable return point. A timestamp such as 18:42 — example explaining why the graph changes direction lets the learner reopen the exact moment without replaying the entire resource.
The timestamp does not prove that the explanation was understood. It simply keeps the educational object recoverable.
When Audio Needs Another Representation
Audio can refer to information that is not actually carried in sound: “look at the diagram”, “this column”, “the red line”, “the equation here”. When the spoken stream points outside itself, preserve the timestamp and route to the associated transcript, slide, figure, equation or other study object rather than pretending the audio alone contains the complete lesson.
Discrimination Check
Give the learner an audio resource with clear source identity, timestamps and one defined listening job. If the learner can recover the relevant segment and return it to the task, the interface is functioning. If the learner can locate the segment but still cannot explain or use the content, the difficulty belongs outside this page.

Languages: a learner marks a pronunciation segment at 04:12 and records the word or phrase attached to it.
Science: a recorded explanation at 12:35 refers to a diagram. The learner saves both the timestamp and the figure location.
Humanities: a lecture argument is marked at two timestamps so the learner can compare the claim and later qualification.
Higher education: a podcast interview is used as a source; the learner preserves speaker identity, exact segment and source trail before quoting or paraphrasing.
