For a Primary 6 student in 2026, the useful question is: what must Science knowledge be able to do under the current PSLE?
The 2026 PSLE Science format
For Standard Science in 2026, the examination is one written paper lasting 1 hour 45 minutes. Booklet A has 30 multiple-choice questions worth 60 marks. Booklet B has 10–11 structured questions worth 40 marks. All questions are compulsory.
The structure matters because the two booklets ask for different forms of control. Multiple-choice questions require fast discrimination between plausible answers. Structured questions require the student to generate the reasoning and language.
What the syllabus has to become inside the learner
- Knowledge: scientific facts, concepts and relationships must be retrievable.
- Observation: the student must identify what actually changed or was measured.
- Evidence: data, diagrams and experimental conditions must be read accurately.
- Reasoning: cause, condition and result must be connected.
- Transfer: a known concept must survive when the organism, apparatus or context changes.
- Expression: the final answer must state the scientific relationship precisely enough to earn the mark.
The five themes are not five isolated boxes
Primary Science is organised around Diversity, Cycles, Systems, Energy and Interactions. By Primary 6, questions can require students to connect ideas across these themes. The job is therefore not to memorise five separate piles of notes. It is to build a model of how the world works that can be reconstructed when the question changes.
Use papers as telemetry
A practice paper should tell us where the system failed:
Concept → interpretation → evidence → reasoning → expression → checking.
If the concept is wrong, teach the concept. If the concept is sound but the evidence is misread, repair question analysis. If the reasoning is correct but the answer is incomplete, repair scientific expression. Different failures need different work.

Why this matters
The syllabus is a specification of what students should know and be able to do. Tuition becomes useful when it turns that specification into a reliable learner runtime: understand, retrieve, apply, explain, check and transfer.
