2026 and 2027 sit on opposite sides of an examination transition.
Students graduating in Secondary 4 in 2026 remain in the GCE examination system. From 2027, the Singapore-Cambridge Secondary Education Certificate (SEC) replaces the separate N- and O-Level certificates for the first Full Subject-Based Banding cohort.
What does not change
- students still need secure mathematical foundations;
- methods must transfer to unfamiliar questions;
- working must remain accurate under time pressure;
- errors need classification and repair;
- checking and recovery remain examination capabilities.
The label on the certificate changes. The need for a reliable Mathematics engine does not.
