Series ID: EDKS-BASIC-ZH-0108 · Lesson No.108 · Expert Maintenance: Annual Audit
Annual Language Audit and Personal Expert Portfolio |
Advanced English should be audited by evidence of performance, not by memory of what you once studied.
An annual language audit asks four questions: what can you still do reliably, what has decayed, what new communication jobs have appeared, and what evidence proves your skills transfer across contexts?

Decay often appears first as slower retrieval, narrower vocabulary or reduced spontaneous range.
15. Hidden decay |
Recognition can remain high while production weakens.
16. Test without support |
Periodically perform without dictionaries or notes to reveal internal retrieval.
17. Then test with strategic support |
Expert performance also includes using tools efficiently.
18. New demands | 新需求
Your English needs may change because of:
- new job
- new industry
- new academic field
- leadership role
- international work
19. Job-to-language mapping |
List real tasks:

Include agenda, meeting notes and self-review.
29. High-stakes evidence |
Use fictional or privacy-safe examples where real operational material is sensitive.
30. Privacy | 隐私
Remove confidential and personal information before storing or sharing portfolio items.
31. Portfolio selection |
Do not keep everything. Keep evidence that shows a meaningful skill.
32. Strong artifact test |
Ask:
- What skill does this prove?
- What constraint was present?
- What feedback changed it?
33. Weak-link audit |
List the top three recurring failures of the year.
34. Frequency × severity |
Prioritise errors by how often they occur and how much they damage meaning or task success.
35. Repair history |
Which weak links were fixed? Which returned?
36. Recurrent failure |
If the same failure returns, the repair may not have transferred or been maintained.
37. New weak link |
Growth often reveals new weaknesses because tasks become harder.
38. Green / Amber / Red annual map |
- Green: stable under variation
- Amber: works with preparation
- Red: breaks under real task pressure
39. Do not average everything |
A red weakness in a critical professional skill may matter more than several green low-priority skills.

- number of source errors
- revision count
- audience-switch accuracy
43. Qualitative metrics |
Possible:
- clarity
- coherence
- pragmatic fit
- decision usefulness
44. Avoid vanity metrics |
Number of rare words used is usually not a good primary measure.
45. External review |
Ask a teacher, peer or domain specialist to review selected evidence where useful.
46. Self-review |
Compare your current work with your own earlier work, not only other people.
47. Calibration | 校准
Does your self-rating match external evidence?
48. Overconfidence signal |
You rate a task green but repeated evidence shows source/meaning errors.
49. Underconfidence signal |
You rate a task red even though performance is consistently stable.
