B2 Reading and Writing Performance | B2 阅读写作表现
B2 reading and writing work together: understand several viewpoints, control the evidence, then build a clear response without copying or overclaiming.
This lesson is a performance checkpoint. It does not certify a CEFR level. It asks whether the learner can handle longer, denser and less predictable written tasks with reasonable independence.
这一课不是“做完就等于 B2”。它检查的是:能不能在多来源、长文本、时间限制和复杂论证中保持准确、连贯和独立。

The B2 reading-writing map | B2 阅读写作地图
- preview sources
- identify purpose and position
- map claims and evidence
- take issue-based notes
- compare sources
- paraphrase accurately
- synthesise
- plan argument
- write
- counterargue
- qualify
- edit
1. Read for architecture first | 先读结构
Before collecting details, identify:
- text type
- purpose
- main claim
- major sections
- conclusion
2. Read for source position | 判断来源立场
Ask:
- What does the writer support?
- What do they question?
- How certain are they?
- What evidence do they use?
3. Claim–evidence map | 主张—证据图
| Claim | Evidence | Strength/limit |
|---|---|---|
| short practice supports consistency | survey + learner logs | preference, not full outcome evidence |
4. Evidence is not decoration | 证据不是装饰
Every source detail should have a job: support, challenge, explain or qualify a claim.
5. Distinguish evidence types | 区分证据类型
- data
- example
- expert interpretation
- anecdote
- observation
6. Distinguish source claim from evidence | 主张不等于证据
A writer’s confident sentence is still a claim until supported.
7. Read scope carefully | 范围词
- some
- many
- most
- all
- in this sample
- under these conditions
8. Read modal certainty | 情态确定度
- may
- might
- likely
- should
- must
These words shape the source’s claim strength.
9. Read limitations | 找限制
Look for:
- small sample
- short duration
- different population
- missing comparison
- uncertain causality
10. Issue-based notes | 按议题做笔记
Do not take Source A notes, then Source B notes only. Organise by issue:
| Issue | Source A | Source B |
|---|---|---|
| flexibility | strong benefit | benefit but depends on task |
| feedback | not discussed | important limitation |
11. Synthesis begins in notes | 综合从笔记开始
If your notes are source-by-source only, synthesis becomes harder later.
12. Agreement | 找共同点
Both sources agree that flexibility affects participation.
13. Difference | 找差异
However, Source B places greater emphasis on feedback quality.
14. Possible reason for difference | 解释差异
The difference may reflect the populations studied.
Use cautious language unless you have evidence.
15. Paraphrase before synthesis | 先准确改写
Preserve:
- certainty
- scope
- time
- cause
- source ownership
16. Attribution | 来源归属
- Source A argues that…
- The report suggests…
- According to the survey…
- The writer notes that…
17. Reporting verb precision | 转述动词精度
argues, suggests, reports, claims, observes, concludes are not identical.
18. Summary vs synthesis | 总结 vs 综合
Summary = reduce one source.
Synthesis = connect multiple sources around an issue.
19. Synthesis sentence | 综合句
Together, the sources suggest that flexibility can improve access, although its value depends partly on the task and available support.
20. Plan before drafting | 写前计划
Use:
- question
- position
- reason 1 + evidence
- reason 2 + evidence
- counterargument
- qualified conclusion
21. Answer the actual task | 回答题目,不写熟悉内容
Underline the task command: compare, evaluate, discuss, recommend, explain.
22. Compare | compare
Show similarities and differences using common criteria.
23. Evaluate | evaluate
Judge using explicit criteria and evidence.
24. Discuss | discuss
Explore more than one reasonable position before concluding.
25. Recommend | recommend
State criteria, trade-offs and conditions.
26. Introduction | 引言
Define the issue, establish scope and signal your direction.
27. Body paragraph architecture | 主体段结构
claim → evidence → explanation → qualification/link
28. Evidence needs explanation | 证据之后要解释
Do not assume the reader automatically sees how a statistic or example supports your claim.
29. Counterargument | 反方
Represent a strong version of the opposing view.
30. Response to counterargument | 回应
You may concede part of it, limit its scope or show stronger evidence.
31. Qualification | 限定
- for many learners
- in this context
- when feedback is available
- to some extent
32. Conclusion | 结论
Answer the task at the same strength your evidence allows.
33. Do not add a new major argument in the conclusion | 结论不加新主论点
34. Cohesion audit | 衔接审计
Check:
- topic chain
- reference chain
- bridge sentences
- logical connectors
- known→new information
35. Information density audit | 信息密度审计
Check whether nominalisations and reduced clauses help or overload the prose.
36. Paraphrase audit | 改写审计
Compare paraphrase against source for:
- certainty drift
- scope drift
- causality drift
- time drift
37. Evidence audit | 证据审计
For every strong claim, ask: what supports this?
38. Source-ownership audit | 来源归属审计
Can a reader tell which idea comes from which source and which is yours?
39. Register audit | 语体审计
For formal-neutral B2 writing:
- avoid slang
- avoid inflated vocabulary
- use precise reporting verbs
- use cautious stance where needed
40. Grammar audit | 语法审计
Check meaning-heavy systems first:
- tense relationships
- conditionals
- modals
- relative clauses
- articles/reference
41. Collocation audit | 搭配审计
Advanced-looking vocabulary with poor collocation weakens B2 writing.
42. Time management | 时间控制
Example 60-minute task:
| 10 min | read/map sources |
| 8 min | notes + plan |
| 30 min | draft |
| 12 min | four audits |
Adjust to task length and learner speed.
43. Do not spend all time reading | 不要读到没时间写
Set a reading cut-off, then write from structured notes.
44. Do not draft directly from highlighted source | 不要边看原文边拼句
Notes create distance and reduce copying.
45. Independent tool use | 工具使用
For learning tasks, dictionaries and reference tools can help after a first independent attempt. In formal assessments, follow the assessment’s rules.
46. Mandarin support | 中文支持
Use Chinese to clarify a complex concept if necessary, but build notes and final English text directly in English whenever possible.
47. Reading practice: Source A | 来源 A
A workplace survey found that employees valued flexible schedules mainly because they reduced commuting pressure and made family responsibilities easier to manage. However, the survey measured satisfaction rather than productivity, so its findings cannot establish whether flexibility improves work output.
48. Reading practice: Source B | 来源 B
A separate team study reported that productivity remained stable after flexible scheduling was introduced. The researchers noted, however, that the organisation also reduced meeting time and introduced new project software during the same period.
49. Synthesis task | 综合任务
Write 70–90 words answering:
What can the two sources reasonably tell us about flexible scheduling?
A strong answer should distinguish satisfaction evidence from productivity evidence and avoid claiming a single cause.
50. Writing task | 写作任务
Write 350–450 words:
Should organisations offer flexible schedules whenever possible?
Use both sources, at least one counterargument and a qualified conclusion.
51. Error clinic | 常见问题
| Problem | Repair |
|---|---|
| I summarise A then B but never combine them. | Organise by issue. |
| I copy source syntax. | Write from notes. |
| I treat preference data as performance proof. | Match evidence to claim. |
| I ignore counterevidence. | Represent and respond. |
| I use rare vocabulary inaccurately. | Prefer precise collocation. |
52. First weak link diagnosis | 第一个卡点诊断
- long text overwhelming → architecture reading.
- sources stay separate → issue-based synthesis.
- paraphrase drifts → meaning invariants.
- argument unsupported → evidence/warrant.
- writing repetitive → paragraph development.
- editing too slow → audit prioritisation.
53. Performance rubric | 表现量表
| Area | Green | Amber | Red |
|---|---|---|---|
| reading | structure + stance clear | main idea clear, detail unstable | source position confused |
| synthesis | issue-based | partly source-by-source | separate summaries only |
| paraphrase | meaning stable | minor drift | claim changes |
| argument | evidence explained | some unsupported points | opinion list |
| editing | major errors repaired | partial | little control |
54. Seven-day B2 reading-writing cycle | 七天循环
| Day 1 | source architecture | 阅读结构 |
| Day 2 | issue notes | 议题笔记 |
| Day 3 | paraphrase | 改写 |
| Day 4 | synthesis | 综合 |
| Day 5 | argument paragraph | 论证 |
| Day 6 | full timed response | 限时写作 |
| Day 7 | error + weak-link audit | 诊断 |
55. Self-test | 自测
Map two B2-level sources; separate claim/evidence/limitations; create issue-based notes; write a synthesis; paraphrase without drift; build claim-evidence-warrant paragraphs; represent counterarguments fairly; edit for cohesion, density, register and language.
56. For parents and teachers | 给家长和老师
Diagnose reading and writing separately before deciding where the failure begins.
Require evidence maps and notes before long drafts.
For Mandarin speakers, reduce translation dependence by moving from English source → English notes → English draft, with Chinese only for difficult concept repair.
57. What Lessons 069–072 add | 第六十九至七十二课增加了什么?
| Lesson | New control |
|---|---|
| 069 | advanced relative/reduced clauses and information compression |
| 070 | nominalisation, information density and agency awareness |
| 071 | implication, attitude and discourse listening |
| 072 | B2 multi-source reading-writing performance |
58. Final 75-minute performance mission | 最终 75 分钟任务
- Read two sources totalling 1,200–1,500 words.
- Map claim/evidence/limitations.
- Create issue-based notes.
- Write a 100-word synthesis.
- Plan a position.
- Write 350–450 words.
- Use accurate attribution.
- Include a strong counterargument.
- Run paraphrase/evidence/cohesion/register audits.
- Diagnose the first weak link.
Consistent success provides meaningful evidence that B2-level reading and writing work is becoming stable. It does not replace formal assessment when certification is required.
