  • shorts
  • jeans

Use:

  • a pair of trousers
  • a pair of jeans

Core colours | 核心颜色

black黑色
white白色
red红色
blue蓝色
green绿色
yellow黄色
orange橙色
pink粉色
purple紫色
brown棕色
grey / gray灰色

Grey or gray? | grey / gray

Both spellings are standard:

Learn the spelling used in your target variety, and recognise the other.

Colour + noun | 颜色 + 名词

  • a red shirt
  • a blue dress
  • black shoes
  • white socks

This is a high-value adjective+noun pattern.

What colour is it? | 它是什么颜色?

  • What colour is it?

This question turns colour recognition into active use.

Light and dark colours | 浅色与深色

  • light blue — 浅蓝
  • dark blue — 深蓝
  • light green — 浅绿
  • dark brown — 深棕

Do not learn dozens of colour shades first. Add light/dark to expand the basic palette.

Wear | wear 穿着

Chinese “穿/戴” may map to the same English verb wear in many basic contexts.

  • put on your hat

Take off | 脱下 / 摘下

Learn the contrast:

  • I wear a jacket. → state / what is on you
  • I put on a jacket. → action / dressing

中文可能都说“穿”,所以最好用情境区分。

  • leather — 皮革

True beginners do not need a complete textile vocabulary. Learn materials only when useful.

  • checked — 格子

Use later when core clothing nouns and colours are stable.

Clothes + colour + size | 衣服 + 颜色 + 尺码

Do not overload adjective order theory yet. Use short natural examples.

Clothing question bank | 衣服问句

  • Is it too big?
  • Do you like this shirt?

Clothing answer bank | 衣服回答

Use Lesson 002’s look-say-cover-write-check method for forms that remain weak.

Regional vocabulary differences | 地区词汇差异

  • pants — common American English for trousers
  • jumper — British English for a type of sweater
  • sweater — broadly understood internationally

Learn the variety relevant to you, but recognise common alternatives.

Politeness and body comments | 服装词汇不要变成评价别人身体

Use clothing and colour vocabulary to describe garments, not to judge another person’s body. Size vocabulary is useful for clothing; it does not need to become commentary about someone’s appearance.
