2. Two dates in one news record
Did you know that Fernvale Ridge was launched alongside a project in another town? Contemporary accounts identify Fernvale Ridge in Sengkang and Sembawang RiverLodge as the two BTO projects announced on 16 March 2010.
Fernvale Ridge history belongs to that wider exercise, but the Sengkang development has its own figures. BTOHQ’s project record lists 522 flats across four residential blocks.
This guide separates the local project from the combined announcement and explains why a news-post date can differ from the date of the event it describes.

The secondary project record identifies three-, four- and five-room flats and a March 2010 launch. A contemporary news reproduction identifies the announcement as 16 March and names both projects.
A combined-launch headline can therefore include homes outside Sengkang. Before using a total in a school project, identify whether it counts Fernvale Ridge alone or both developments.
The project page also contains an estimated completion entry. This guide does not use that estimate as proof of an actual opening or first-occupation date.
The accessible CNA reproduction is posted on a page dated 17 March 2010, but its reproduced report is dated 16 March. The page date and the reported announcement date therefore do different jobs.
That is not automatically a contradiction. A report can be republished a day after the event. Keep both dates in your notes and label what each represents.
Try an invented example with a child: a school holds an event on Monday and publishes its account on Tuesday. Which date answers “when did it happen”, and which answers “when was this account posted”?
A timeline becomes clearer when an event date and a publication date are not collapsed into one.
Create three notebook columns: source date, claim and kind of evidence. Put a launch statement in one row, a later account in another and a dated observation in a third.
Ask what additional record would settle an unanswered question. An actual completion date, for example, needs a completion record rather than an old estimate.
During a neighbourhood walk, use current maps and signs, stay in permitted common areas and respect residents’ privacy. Old mentions of amenities are not a present-day directory.
The reward is a clearer picture of Fernvale: not one timeless description, but a sequence of announcements, accounts and later evidence.
