Did you know that Compassvale Mast’s name was explained through the image of a ship’s mast? Its historical housing brochure connects the name to Sengkang’s seafaring theme and describes architecture inspired by the mast’s linear form.
Compassvale Mast history is an inviting way to look at the town centre differently. A familiar residential development can carry a design story in its name, roof features and shared-space plans.
This guide follows the brochure preserved in a third-party archive. It distinguishes the original design description from claims about current lighting, facility operators or the condition of the buildings.

The brochure places Compassvale Mast between Sengkang Square and Sengkang East Road. It describes nine 16-storey residential blocks and 928 three-, four- and five-room flats, using the historical category “Premium”.
The document’s own title includes “Nov12”. Housing Map’s historical launch index separately lists the project under 21 November 2012. PDF Archive’s March 2014 filing date records the uploaded copy, not the housing launch.
That difference is worth keeping in your notes. The date a document reached an archive can be later than the event or plan it describes.
The brochure relates the name to the upright support for a ship’s sails. Its description links that image to clean architectural lines and a roof-level light-box feature.
Read this as a documented design intention, rather than evidence that an actual ship once stood on the site. A name can interpret a town theme without being a literal account of the parcel’s former use.
Try the idea with a child: choose an everyday object and sketch a building influenced by one of its qualities. A leaf might suggest branching routes; a book might suggest repeated layers. The exercise is about translating an idea, not copying an object exactly.
Then ask which part of the sketch communicates the idea most clearly. Explaining that choice turns a visual impression into a reasoned answer.
The brochure also describes covered links, shops, a supermarket and eating house, together with roof gardens above two multi-storey car parks and other shared facilities.
These features belong to the historical account of the development. A brochure is not a live directory, and an old lighting description does not confirm what is operating on a particular evening today.
For a family walk, observe only from permitted public or common areas and follow current signs. You can look for a relationship between a name and a form without entering residential spaces.
Finish with two captions in a notebook: one beginning “the brochure describes” and one beginning “we observed”. Keeping evidence and observation distinct makes the story more reliable, not less enjoyable.
