Fernvale Glades has a useful starting point for anyone curious about Sengkang’s housing history: the official November 2017 BTO document. It lets us look back at the development as it was presented to prospective residents, before treating today’s estate as a finished scene.

HDB’s November 2017 annex places Fernvale Glades between Sengkang West Road, Sengkang West Way and Jalan Kayu. It lists 1,300 flats offered for sale, ranging from 2-room Flexi to 5-room and 3Gen types. The 3Gen category accounted for 52 of those sale flats.
That mix is a helpful detail to notice. A development can be planned for households at different stages of life. The launch record gives us a firmer way to discuss that variety than guessing from the appearance of the blocks.
The annex also identified a childcare centre, an RC centre, an elderly facility and accessible roof gardens above two multi-storey car parks. Its environmental and construction description included a Pneumatic Waste Conveyance System and Prefabricated Prefinished Volumetric Construction, or PPVC.
For a young reader, the long names can be treated as clues. Ask what each feature was intended to do, then separate the home itself from the systems and common spaces around it. An estate is easier to understand when those different parts are considered together.
The 1,300 figure is the sale-flat total in the launch table. The same document separately describes rental provision, so the sale figure should not be presented as every dwelling planned across the development. November 2017 records the launch exercise; it does not establish completion or first occupation.
