At the official opening on 25 September 2022, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong recalled the groundbreaking in 2018. His speech stated that the pandemic had lengthened construction.
Keep those dates side by side: 2018 marks the groundbreaking, while 2022 marks the official opening ceremony. A short timeline is more informative than giving the whole project a single birthday.
The opening speech placed the club beside the LRT station and Seletar Mall. It presented the building as a gathering point for Fernvale residents and the wider community.
Here is a simple way to read that geography: ask what else someone might do on the same trip. Shared places become easier to include in everyday life when reaching them does not require a completely separate journey.
The 2022 account described sports facilities and a floor for young families, including childcare, play and activity spaces. It also identified the integrated hawker centre and market as a response to residents’ requests.
The interesting connection is between different needs, not just different rooms. A place to learn, a place to move and a place to eat can support one another. That is our reading of the design, rather than a claim about how every visitor uses it.
