MOE Kindergarten @ Rivervale: A Sengkang Parent’s Guide to Questions and Everyday Learning

MOE Kindergarten @ Rivervale has its own information section on Rivervale Primary School’s official website. Sengkang parents can use it to find kindergarten information, open-house materials and the route for enrolment enquiries.

The current information page links to MOE’s programme and fee guidance and provides a waitlist route for families enquiring after the main registration period. A waitlist enquiry is a step to clarify availability, not confirmation of a place.

This guide helps parents prepare useful questions and offers an original family activity: making a simple picture map of a familiar journey. Your child can describe places, organise a sequence and explain what helps them recognise the route.

Choose your reading route

Get oriented: start with the key questions. Explore practical steps: read the family guidance. Plan your next step: connect it with your routine.

PART 1 OF 6

Start with the official kindergarten information

Back to contents

Rivervale Primary School’s MK section separates kindergarten information from its primary-school programme pages. Use the kindergarten’s own materials when asking about sessions, learning experiences and enrolment.

Write down the details you need before contacting the centre. Current availability, care arrangements and collection procedures may matter as much to your family as the curriculum description. Keeping those questions separate makes the enquiry easier to follow.

PART 2 OF 6

Choose a familiar journey to describe

Back to contents

For an independent home activity, choose a short route you regularly take together, perhaps from home to a nearby shop. Ask your child which places they remember. A distinctive sign or building entrance may be more meaningful to them than a street name.

Draw three or four large boxes on paper. Let the child choose a picture for each part of the journey. This is a conversation and drawing exercise; children still travel with the supervision appropriate to their age.

PART 3 OF 6

Put the places in a useful order

Back to contents

Arrange the pictures from the starting point to the destination. Ask what comes first and what comes next. If the sequence becomes confusing, talk through a recent journey together.

Use concrete location language while pointing to the drawings: beside, after, across from or near. Choose only the words that fit what the child is describing. The purpose is to give their observation a clearer expression.

PART 4 OF 6

Notice what the map leaves out

Back to contents

Ask another family member to look at the picture map and explain what they understand. They may recognise a place but be unsure how two pictures connect. Let the child add an arrow or another landmark.

Talk about the difference between a memory drawing and a map suitable for navigating. Your child’s version can communicate an experience without containing every detail needed by an unfamiliar visitor. Recognising that limit is part of learning about representations.

PART 5 OF 6

Use the activity to understand your child

Back to contents

Ask the child to tell the journey in their own words. Notice which details they recall easily and where they need a prompt. A short explanation can give you something specific to discuss with an educator.

Keep the observation descriptive. ‘She explained the order using three pictures’ is more informative than a broad label about ability. Ask what the educator sees in other activities, then agree on one manageable way to support learning at home.

PART 6 OF 6

Make the enquiry and family plan realistic

Back to contents

Use the official MK information page for the current contact and waitlist route, and MOE’s current guidance for registration rules. Confirm any place, session or care arrangement directly rather than inferring it from an enquiry form.

Plan your actual drop-off and collection journey through Rivervale, including a backup adult and holiday arrangements. A clear routine helps you judge whether the setting works for your household. Keep home learning playful and small enough to fit the child’s day.
