Farmway LRT history has a useful distinction at its centre: the station’s passenger opening came after the Sengkang West Loop began operating. Farmway entered passenger service on 15 November 2007.

The stop is part of the West Loop in Anchorvale. Its story offers a small, concrete example of a transport network becoming available in stages as the surrounding neighbourhood develops.

This eduKateSengkang guide focuses on that milestone and the places you can connect with it. Use current operator information for directions and services on the day of a journey.

CHAPTER 1 OF 6 · History and key facts

1. The passenger opening in November 2007

Back to contents

Land Transport Guru’s station history gives Farmway’s passenger-service opening as 15 November 2007. SBS Transit’s milestones directory independently records Farmway opening during 2007.

These sources provide different levels of detail: the specialist history supplies the day and month, while the operator’s summary confirms the year.

That date belongs to Farmway station. It should not be used as the opening date for the whole Sengkang LRT network.

2. A station opening after its loop

Back to contents

The station history records that Farmway was not open when West Loop services began on 29 January 2005. It attributes the later opening to limited development around the station at that earlier stage.

An operational railway can therefore have a stop that enters use later. The visible presence of tracks or a station does not, by itself, establish that passengers could use every stop.

This makes a map and a timeline complementary. The map shows where a station sits; the timeline tells you when that stop became part of an available journey.

3. The farmway name and the present-day town

Back to contents

The name is an easy reminder to ask about older land uses, even when your immediate view contains flats and transport infrastructure. It is a starting question, not proof of an exact farm boundary.

For a documented connection between a station name and a former farmway, see Cheng Lim LRT history.

Keep the two stations distinct. Similar farming associations do not make their opening dates or naming histories interchangeable.

4. Anchorvale’s later destinations

Back to contents

Anchorvale Village’s reported soft launch came in May 2024, well after Farmway’s opening. Our Anchorvale Village history follows that separate milestone.

The sports centre’s history adds another layer to the neighbourhood’s recreation story.

The point is not to assign everything nearby to one development date. A familiar area can be built from facilities that arrived at different times and gradually became part of the same daily routine.

5. Make the journey a small neighbourhood exploration

Back to contents

Before leaving, choose your destination and check the current station information. Historic opening dates are stable; travel arrangements can change.

Once outside, notice how the pedestrian routes connect the station with its surroundings. Which signs help you? Where is a safe place to cross or pause?

With a child, compare the train map with the street-level view. A station symbol represents a place where the rail journey ends and another kind of movement begins.

6. Three station milestones to compare

Back to contents

After Farmway in 2007, Cheng Lim opened in 2013, followed by Kupang in 2015.

These examples make the staged-opening story easier to remember. They are individual station events within a wider network, rather than three occasions when the same whole line opened.

A simple note after a visit can bring the history back to the place: one date, one map connection and one detail you saw on the way.
