Video feels easy to enter. Press play and information arrives. But the student can reach the end without knowing what the video was supposed to do, which section mattered, what remains unresolved, or where to restart tomorrow.

The Owned Interface Job
This page does not own the cognitive effects of video, attention, retrieval or note-taking. MindOS owns those mechanisms. It owns the visible controls around the study situation: why the video is open, where the learner is, what must be captured, when to stop and how to return.
Give the Video One Job
“Watch this chapter” is usually too large. Better interface jobs are specific:
- find the explanation of one concept;
- see one worked method demonstrated;
- review one subsection before practice;
- locate an example that matches a current question;
- re-enter a topic from a known timestamp.
That job determines which part of the video matters and when the resource can be closed.
The Video Position Card
For any video longer than a short clip, keep a tiny position card:

A Bounded Video Protocol
- Name the study object.
- Write why the video is being opened.
- Choose the starting timestamp. Do not automatically restart from zero.
- Watch one bounded section.
- Capture only interface state: useful timestamp, unresolved question, linked worksheet or next resource.
- Stop when the declared job is complete.
- Write the resume point before closing.
When Should the Student Pause?
Pause when the interface needs a decision, not simply because pausing feels studious. Examples include:
- a worked example begins and you need the matching question;
- a new term appears that blocks the current section;
- you need to record a timestamp for later;
- the declared video job has been completed;
- you realise the video is not the right resource for the current study object.
How Do You Know the Interface Is Working?
- The learner can say why the video is open.
- The learner knows where they are inside it.
- Questions are timestamped instead of becoming vague memories.
- The video closes when its job is finished.
- Tomorrow’s restart point is visible.
None of those signals, by themselves, proves the learner understood or retained the content. That would be a different claim.
Parent and Tutor Guide
If a student says, “I studied for an hour; I watched videos,” ask interface questions rather than judging the medium:
- What was the video supposed to help you do?
- Which section mattered?
- Where did you stop?
- What question is still open?
- What happens next?
These questions make the study route visible without claiming to measure learning from watch time.

Common Mistakes
- Opening video without a job. The resource becomes the session.
- Restarting from zero every time. Position state is lost.
- Writing everything said. Navigation disappears inside transcription.
- Using watch time as proof of learning. That inference is not owned here.
- Closing without a resume point. Tomorrow begins with re-navigation.
