The 2026 PSLE Science paper has one shared time budget for Booklet A and Booklet B. SEAB’s revised format specifies 1 hour 45 minutes for the full paper. Booklet A has 30 multiple-choice questions worth 60 marks; Booklet B has 10–11 structured questions worth 40 marks. Candidates answer all questions.
That means there is no official “Booklet A gets X minutes, Booklet B gets Y minutes” rule. The learner must create a practical split in training. A useful starting budget gives Booklet A enough time for accurate concept selection while protecting substantial reasoning time for Booklet B.

This is an eduKate training budget, not an official allocation. Some learners will need 40–45 minutes for Booklet A; others can work accurately in less. The correct split is the one that maximises reliable mark conversion across fresh papers.
Booklet A: do not confuse speed with guessing
Thirty MCQ questions can create pressure to move too quickly. The learner should read the stem precisely, identify the tested concept, eliminate options using Science rather than intuition and move on when uncertainty becomes static.
Booklet B: marks need reasoning, not keyword volume
The revised 2026 Booklet B uses structured questions worth 2–5 marks each. Time should therefore follow the reasoning demand and mark value, not a fixed “two minutes per question” rule.
- Read what changed or what is being compared.
- Identify the observation or data.
- Select the scientific relationship.
- State the mechanism or causal explanation.
- Use the required evidence and answer scope.
- Move on once the mark demand is satisfied.
The one-minute static rule
If the learner spends roughly a minute rereading without generating new information, change the operation: draw, identify variables, eliminate options, mark evidence or move on. Static rereading is not useful thinking.

How to calibrate the split
- Sit one fresh paper with natural timing and record when Booklet A ends.
- Classify Booklet A errors: haste, concept, reading or elimination failure.
- Classify Booklet B errors: concept, evidence, mechanism, answer scope or time.
- Adjust the split by only 5 minutes at a time.
- Retest on a fresh paper.
- Keep the split only if total mark conversion improves without creating new unfinished work.
