If a method is inaccurate without time pressure, adding a clock usually makes the failure faster. Build:
ACCURACY → CONSISTENCY → EFFICIENCY → TIME PRESSURE.
Time is useful once the student has a method worth automating.
Timed Versus Untimed Comparison
If a student performs well untimed but collapses under time, compare the process:
- Did question reading become shallower?
- Did planning disappear?
- Did the student overwrite short answers?
- Did grammar errors increase?

The clock may reveal which process is not automated yet.
Performance Volatility Matters
