B1 Reading and Writing Integration | B1 阅读写作整合
Read to understand. Take notes to control the information. Write to reconstruct and respond.
阅读是为了理解,笔记是为了控制信息,写作是为了重新组织并回应。
At B1 direction, reading and writing should no longer be treated as separate subjects. Good writing grows from accurate reading, useful notes, clear structure and controlled response.
这一课把前面的阅读、笔记、总结与段落写作合成一个完整流程。

The integration map | 阅读写作整合路线
- preview the text
- identify purpose
- skim for main idea
- read for structure
- take notes
- separate fact/opinion/inference
- summarise
- decide your response
- plan paragraphs
- write
- check cohesion
- check accuracy
1. Reading is input for writing | 阅读是写作输入
A strong response starts by representing the source accurately.
2. Preview | 预览
Check:
- title
- headings
- source
- text type
- length
3. Identify purpose | 判断目的
Is the text mainly trying to:
- inform
- explain
- describe
- compare
- persuade
- tell a story
4. Skim first | 先略读
Ask: What is this mainly about?
Do not start by translating the first sentence word by word.
5. Read for structure | 读结构
Common B1 structures:
- problem → causes → solutions
- opinion → reasons → examples
- compare → evaluate → choose
- event → response → result
- process → stages → result
6. Paragraph jobs | 段落功能
Write a short label for each paragraph:
- P1: introduces problem
- P2: gives causes
- P3: proposes solution
7. Main idea vs detail | 主旨 vs 细节
Main idea answers “what is this mainly saying?” Details support it.
8. Fact | 事实
Information presented as verifiable.
9. Opinion | 观点
A judgement, preference or interpretation.
10. Inference | 推断
A conclusion supported by clues but not directly stated.
11. Keep these separate in notes | 笔记要分开
- F = fact
- O = opinion
- I = inference
12. Note structure, not sentences | 笔记记结构,不抄整句
Example:
daily study → easier habit + frequent retrieval / long sessions useful for deep tasks / best = mixed
13. Source keywords | 来源关键词
Keep precise terms if changing them would change meaning.
14. Paraphrase supporting language | 其余用自己的话
Original: Short daily sessions are easier to maintain.
Paraphrase: Brief everyday practice is easier to continue regularly.
15. Do not paraphrase by replacing every word | 改写不是逐词换同义词
Change the structure and explain the meaning naturally.
16. Summary before response | 先总结,再回应
Before giving your opinion, prove that you understood the source.
17. One-sentence summary | 一句话总结
The text argues that regular short practice is useful, although longer sessions are still needed for some tasks.
18. Two-sentence summary | 两句总结
Sentence 1 = main point. Sentence 2 = major support/qualification.
19. Source idea vs your idea | 来源观点 vs 自己观点
Source:
The writer argues that…
Your response:
I agree because…
20. Simple attribution | 简单来源归属
- The article explains that…
- The writer argues that…
- According to the text…
This helps readers know whose idea is whose.
21. Do not claim source ideas as your own | 不要把来源观点写成自己原创
At B1 direction, simple attribution is enough for many learning tasks.
22. Response options | 回应方式
- agree
- disagree
- partly agree
- compare with experience
- apply idea to another situation
23. Agree with reason | 同意 + 理由
I agree with the writer because short daily practice is easier to fit into a busy schedule.
24. Partial agreement | 部分同意
I agree that daily practice is useful, but some skills need longer sessions.
25. Disagree carefully | 谨慎不同意
I understand the writer’s point, but I think the best schedule depends on the learner’s goal.
26. Use evidence from source | 使用来源证据
Refer to an idea or example from the text, then explain why it matters.
27. Do not copy large source chunks | 不要大量照抄
Use brief necessary wording and mostly paraphrase.
28. Plan before writing | 写前计划
Three-column plan:
| Source | My response | Example |
|---|---|---|
| daily practice easier | agree | 10 min morning routine |
| long tasks need time | agree | Sunday reading |
29. Two-paragraph response | 两段回应
- P1: summary + main response
- P2: reasons + example + ending
30. Three-paragraph response | 三段回应
- P1: source/main issue
- P2: your reasoning and example
- P3: qualification/conclusion
31. Topic sentence | 主题句
Each paragraph needs a clear job.
32. Cohesion | 衔接
Use:
- this
- these
- however
- because
- for example
- as a result
33. Reference must stay clear | 指代必须清楚
Check what every it/this/they/these refers to.
34. Use repeated key nouns strategically | 必要时重复核心名词
Clarity is more important than avoiding all repetition.
35. Vocabulary from source | 来源词汇
Use useful new vocabulary only if you understand its grammar and collocation.
36. Do not decorate the response with difficult synonyms | 不要为了“高级”乱换词
Clear B1 writing is stronger than inaccurate sophisticated wording.
37. Read two sources | 两个来源
B1-direction synthesis can begin with two short texts on the same topic.
38. Source A / Source B notes | A/B 来源笔记
| Issue | Source A | Source B |
|---|---|---|
| daily study | supports | supports |
| long sessions | less emphasis | important for deep tasks |
39. Identify agreement | 找共同点
Both texts agree that regular practice matters.
40. Identify difference | 找不同点
However, the second text gives more importance to longer focused sessions.
41. Synthesis sentence | 综合句
Together, the texts suggest that frequent practice is useful, but the best schedule may combine short and long sessions.
42. Do not mix sources accidentally | 不要混淆来源
Keep A and B labels in notes until your summary is secure.
43. Reading task: compare structure | 阅读结构比较
Ask whether a source is mainly narrative, explanatory, opinion-based or problem-solution.
44. Writing task: match structure to purpose | 写作结构匹配任务
- opinion response → position/reasons
- problem response → causes/solutions
- comparison → criteria/evaluation
45. Integrate grammar naturally | 自然整合语法
Use grammar because meaning needs it:
- present perfect for experience/duration
- conditionals for consequences
- relative clauses for definition
- passive for process/focus
46. Do not force every grammar structure into one text | 不要硬塞语法
Grammar should serve the message.
47. Editing pass 1: source accuracy | 第一轮:来源准确
- Did I represent the source correctly?
- Did I confuse fact and opinion?
- Did I invent a detail?
48. Editing pass 2: organisation | 第二轮:结构
- Does each paragraph have one job?
- Is the order logical?
49. Editing pass 3: cohesion | 第三轮:衔接
- Are connectors accurate?
- Are pronouns clear?
50. Editing pass 4: language | 第四轮:语言
- verb forms
- articles
- word forms
- collocations
- punctuation
51. Reading practice A | 阅读 A
Many language learners believe that long study sessions are necessary for progress. However, short daily practice can make retrieval easier because learners return to the language more often. Longer sessions still have value when a task requires concentration, such as extended reading or writing. A balanced schedule may therefore be more useful than choosing only one method.
Tasks:
- Write the main idea.
- Label the contrast.
- Take five keyword notes.
- Write a two-sentence summary.
- Write one response sentence.
52. Reading practice B | 阅读 B
Working from home can reduce travel time and give employees more flexibility. On the other hand, some workers find it harder to separate work from personal life when both happen in the same place. Team communication can also become more difficult if people rarely meet. For this reason, some organisations use a mixed system rather than choosing only home or office work.
Tasks:
- Identify advantages.
- Identify disadvantages.
- State the writer’s overall position.
- Write a 70-word response.
53. Two-source practice | 双来源练习
Compare the two practice texts by structure, not topic. One uses claim → contrast → balanced conclusion; the other uses advantages → disadvantages → compromise.
54. Writing practice: 180–220 words | 综合写作
Read one 400–600 word text. Write:
- 40–60 word summary
- 120–160 word response
55. Error clinic | 常见错误
| Problem | Better move |
|---|---|
| I copy the source. | Note → close source → paraphrase. |
| I respond before understanding. | Summary first. |
| I mix source and my opinion. | Use attribution. |
| I add unrelated personal stories. | Connect examples to the source issue. |
| I use complex vocabulary inaccurately. | Prefer clear controlled language. |
56. First weak link diagnosis | 第一个卡点诊断
- I cannot identify source main idea → reading gist.
- I note too much → prioritisation.
- I can summarise but not respond → reasoning.
- I respond but misrepresent source → source accuracy.
- paragraphs repeat → planning.
- ideas are correct but disconnected → cohesion.
57. Retrieval lab | 提取练习
- 文章主要说明…… → ______
- 作者认为…… → ______
- 根据文章…… → ______
- 我部分同意,因为…… → ______
- 两个来源都认为…… → ______
- 然而,第二个来源…… → ______
Suggested answers: The article mainly explains… / The writer argues that… / According to the text… / I partly agree because… / Both sources suggest that… / However, the second source…
58. Seven-day integration cycle | 七天整合训练
| Day 1 | structure reading | 读结构 |
| Day 2 | notes | 笔记 |
| Day 3 | summary | 总结 |
| Day 4 | response planning | 回应计划 |
| Day 5 | two paragraphs | 写作 |
| Day 6 | two-source synthesis | 综合来源 |
| Day 7 | full 45-minute integration task | 综合任务 |
59. Self-test | 自测
Identify text purpose and structure; take notes; distinguish fact/opinion/inference; write a 50-word summary; attribute source ideas; respond with reasons; compare two sources; write 2–3 connected paragraphs; complete four editing passes.
60. For parents and teachers | 给家长和老师
Separate comprehension from writing quality during diagnosis. A weak response may come from a reading failure rather than a writing failure.
Require notes before drafts for longer tasks.
For Mandarin speakers, discourage line-by-line translation of a Chinese response. Build the response directly from English notes and structures.
