Series ID: EDKS-BASIC-ZH-0048 · Lesson No.048 · A2 → B1 Transition
From A2 to B1 | 从 A2 走向 B1
B1 is not “more grammar”. It is stronger control across longer, less predictable communication.
B1 不只是“学更多语法”,而是面对更长、更复杂、更不可预测的交流时,仍然能保持控制。
This lesson is a bridge, not a certificate. Finishing the page does not automatically make a learner B1. The goal is to identify the performance changes needed to move from A2 independence toward B1-level control.
这一课是一张过渡地图,不是等级证书。真正的升级要看听说读写是否能在更长、更陌生的任务中保持稳定。

23. Future condition | 未来条件
- If the weather improves, we’ll go outside.
24. Second conditional recognition | 第二条件句认识
As B1 approaches, learners will meet hypothetical language:

This deserves its own later lesson. Do not mix it with first conditional yet.
25. Modal range grows | 情态动词范围扩大
- should
- could
- might

35. Phrasal verbs | 短语动词认识
B1-direction everyday English includes more phrasal verbs:
- find out
- pick up
- look for

Learn them in context, not as random lists.
36. Same phrasal verb, several meanings | 一词多义
pick up can mean collect, learn casually, improve, answer phone in some contexts. Context matters.
37. Register | 语体
Begin to notice informal vs neutral/formal choices:
- kids / children

44. Reading dictionary strategy | 阅读词典策略
Look up words after first reading, not before, unless meaning is blocked.
45. Listening dictionary strategy | 听力词典策略

Adjust the pace to the learner; this is a planning model, not a promise of a level in twelve weeks.
61. Measure performance, not completion | 看表现,不看“学完”
Finishing lessons is not the same as controlling language.
62. Useful progress metrics | 有用指标
- minutes of sustained speech
- percentage of listening details recovered
- reading summary quality
- paragraph coherence
- repair success
- response speed
63. Mandarin support at B1 direction | B1 方向的中文辅助
Chinese remains useful for:
- complex grammar contrast
- precise concept checking
- efficient explanation
But familiar tasks should increasingly run in English.
64. Mandarin transfer: long pre-noun information | 长定语
English often prefers relative clauses or separate sentences where Chinese can place long descriptive material before a noun.
65. Mandarin transfer: connector choice | 连接词
Avoid stacking Chinese-style paired connectors mechanically. Learn English clause patterns.
66. Mandarin transfer: topic continuity | 话题连续
English longer texts often require explicit reference and paragraph signalling.
67. Reading practice: bridge learner | 阅读 A
Mei has studied English seriously for two years. At first, she focused on vocabulary and basic grammar because she needed English for everyday work. As her confidence grew, she began reading longer articles and speaking for several minutes at a time. She still makes mistakes, especially when conversations move quickly, but she no longer stops whenever she hears an unfamiliar word. Instead, she listens for the main idea, asks for clarification when necessary and keeps the conversation moving. Her next goal is to write longer explanations and understand more natural spoken English without relying on transcripts.
- How long has Mei studied seriously?
- What did she focus on first?
- What changed as confidence grew?
- What problem remains?
- How does she handle unknown words now?
- What is her next goal?
68. Reading practice: balanced opinion | 阅读 B
Online learning can be convenient because students can study from home and choose flexible times. However, it is not always the best option for everyone. Some learners find it harder to concentrate without a teacher in the room, while others enjoy the independence. For me, a mixed approach works best: online practice for flexibility and face-to-face lessons when I need detailed feedback.
- What is one advantage?
- What is one disadvantage?
- What contrast is presented?
- What is the writer’s final position?
69. Writing practice: 3-paragraph bridge task | 三段写作
Topic: The best way to improve English.
- Paragraph 1: opinion
- Paragraph 2: reasons/examples
- Paragraph 3: balanced conclusion
70. Speaking practice: 3-minute structured answer | 三分钟口语
Topic: A useful experience that changed how you learn.
Include:
- experience
- specific past event
- lesson
- current practice
- future plan
71. Listening practice: structured note-taking | 听力笔记
For a 90-second clip, write only:
- topic
- 3 details
- 1 contrast
- 1 conclusion
72. Error clinic | 常见升级错误
| Problem | Better move |
|---|---|
| I chase advanced grammar but A2 repair is weak. | Repair the weak link first. |
| I make sentences longer but less clear. | Use paragraph/speaking structure. |
| I learn rare synonyms instead of collocations. | Deepen useful vocabulary. |
| I translate long texts line by line. | Read structure and main idea first. |
| I think one bad task means I am not progressing. | Measure patterns over time. |
73. First weak link diagnosis | 第一个卡点诊断
- long listening collapses → note-taking/gist problem.
- long speaking becomes repetitive → structure/reason/example problem.
- reading loses paragraph links → cohesion problem.
- writing repeats ideas → paragraph-job problem.
- grammar known but not integrated → tense/clause relationship problem.
- unknown words stop communication → paraphrase/tolerance problem.
74. Retrieval lab | 提取练习
- 我已经在这里工作两年了。 → ______
- 如果下雨,我们就改计划。 → ______
- 帮助我的那个人是 Anna。 → ______
- 我觉得这个方法有效,不过并不适合所有人。 → ______

- 我不知道这个词,但我可以换一种说法。 → ______
Suggested answers: I’ve worked here for two years. / If it rains, we’ll change the plan. / The person who helped me was Anna. / I think this method is effective, but it isn’t right for everyone. / This article mainly explains… / I don’t know the word, but I can say it another way.

Answer key | 答案
1 longer, less predictable connected control; 2 main point/detail/reason/example/contrast/ending; 3 main point/example/contrast/conclusion examples; 4–34 performance answers vary; 35 level requires demonstrated performance across skills, not page completion.
78. For parents and teachers | 给家长和老师
Do not promote learners to harder materials only because they completed a sequence. Use performance evidence.
Increase task length and unpredictability gradually while keeping topic familiarity high at first.
For Mandarin speakers, continue reducing automatic translation while using Chinese strategically for complex contrasts.
Measure transfer, coherence and recovery—not only grammar accuracy.
79. Final real-world challenge | 最终真实任务
Complete one 45-minute mixed mission:
- listen to a 2-minute everyday explanation
- take notes
- read a 500-word related text
- summarise both
- compare two options
- state a balanced opinion
- make a conditional plan
- hold a 5-minute conversation
- write 180–220 words
- diagnose your first weak link
If you can complete this with reasonable independence and repair, you have strong evidence that your study should increasingly move into B1-direction materials while continuing to maintain A2 foundations.
