Quick read | 先看最重要的

Start with places you actually go and transport you actually use.

先学你真的会去的地方,以及你真的会用的交通方式。

First place words:

home · school · work · shop · supermarket · restaurant · bank · hospital · station · bus stop · toilet

First transport words:

bus · train · car · taxi · bicycle/bike · plane · boat · ticket

Then phrases:

  • go home
  • go to school
  • go to work
  • at the station
  • take the bus
  • by train
  • on foot
  • buy a ticket

Then questions:

  • Where is the station?
  • Which bus?
  • How much is the ticket?
  • What time does the train leave?

Research floor | 研究底线

British Council Places in a Town and Transport 1 / Transport 2 organise practical place and transport vocabulary by everyday topic. Cambridge Pre A1 Starters also uses familiar transport and place words in its beginner wordlists.

This page is a vocabulary route, not a full travel course | 这页不是完整旅行课程

This lesson does not try to teach all directions, prepositions, ticket systems or travel grammar. It builds the first lexical map so the learner can recognise places, name transport and ask for basic travel information.

完整介词机制仍由更深的 eduKate owner 页面负责。

Home, school and work | 家、学校、工作地点

English中文Useful phrase
homego home / at home
school学校go to school
work工作 / 工作地点go to work / at work

  • go to work

Do not translate every Chinese structure word by word. Store the English chunk.

supermarket超市at the supermarket
market市场go to the market
shopping centre / mall购物中心at the shopping centre
pharmacy药房at the pharmacy

Food places | 吃饭地点

station车站at the station
train station火车站 / 地铁站(依系统)the train station
bus stop公交站at the bus stop
airport机场at the airport

terminal航站楼 / 总站the terminal

For a true beginner, station, bus stop, airport usually deserve priority before specialist travel terms.

Town places | 城镇地点

park公园
cinema电影院
museum博物馆
hotel酒店
street街道
road道路
bridge

British Council’s “Places in a town” topic is a useful next-step source after the most basic place vocabulary.

Core transport | 核心交通词汇

English中文Useful phrase
bus公交车take the bus
train火车 / 列车take the train
car汽车by car
taxi出租车take a taxi
bicycle / bike自行车ride a bike
motorbike摩托车ride a motorbike
plane飞机by plane
boatby boat

Public transport | 公共交通

Useful category words:

  • public transport
  • bus
  • train
  • metro / subway / underground / MRT — regional terms differ
  • taxi

Do not assume one city’s transport word is universal. Learn the term used where you live, and recognise common international alternatives.

Bus, coach, train | bus / coach / train

A beginner can first separate:

  • bus — common road public transport
  • coach — often longer-distance bus
  • train — rail transport

Local usage varies, so real signs and transport systems are good vocabulary sources.

Take the bus | take 的交通用法

  • take the bus
  • take the train
  • take a taxi

Chinese may use “坐”, but English frequently uses take. Learn the chunk rather than “take = 拿”.

By bus / by train / by car | by + 交通方式

  • by bus
  • by train
  • by car
  • by taxi
  • by plane

Example:

  • I go to work by bus.
  • I go to school by train.

On foot | 步行

English commonly says:

on foot

Example:

I go to the shop on foot.

Do not translate “by foot” from another language pattern.

Ride, drive, walk | 骑、开车、走路

walk步行walk to school
rideride a bike
drive开车drive to work

Action and transport nouns should be learned together.

Ticket words | 车票 / 票务

ticketbuy a ticket
fare车费bus fare
price价格ticket price
cardtravel card

For true beginners, ticket, price, buy, pay often matter before specialist ticketing terminology.

Buy, pay, use | 买、付、使用

  • buy a ticket
  • pay for the ticket
  • use a card
  • use the ticket

Stop and station | stop 与 station

bus stop is a place where buses stop.

station is a larger transport place for trains/buses or other systems depending on context.

  • at the bus stop
  • at the train station

Get on / get off | 上车 / 下车

  • get on the bus
  • get off the bus
  • get on the train
  • get off the train

Learn these as chunks. Do not try to translate get with one fixed Chinese word.

Get in / get out | 进入 / 离开车辆

With smaller vehicles such as cars/taxis, English often uses:

  • get in the car
  • get out of the car

Do not overload the beginner with all transport-preposition rules at once. Store a few high-frequency chunks.

Leave and arrive | 出发与到达

  • The bus leaves at 8.
  • The train arrives at 9.

Core vocabulary:

  • leave — 离开 / 出发
  • arrive — 到达

What time does it leave? | 几点出发?

  • What time does the bus leave?
  • What time does the train arrive?

Lesson 011 supplies the question-word vocabulary; Lesson 010 supplies the clock vocabulary.

Where is the station? | 地点问句

  • Where is the station?
  • Where is the bus stop?
  • Where is the toilet?
  • Where is the supermarket?

This is one of the most practical beginner frames.

Which bus? | 哪一辆公交?

  • Which bus?
  • Which train?
  • Which platform?

Answers may be numbers or names:

  • Bus 12.
  • Platform 3.

How much is the ticket? | 票多少钱?

Useful pair:

  • ticket
  • price / how much

Combine number vocabulary from Lesson 010.

How do you go to work? | 怎么去工作?

Answers:

  • By bus.
  • By train.
  • By car.
  • On foot.

One question gives a whole transport vocabulary practice set.

Near and far | 近与远

  • near the school
  • far from home
  • The station is near.
  • The airport is far.

Left and right | 左与右

  • turn left
  • turn right
  • on the left
  • on the right

right can also mean correct. Context matters.

Straight | 直走

  • go straight
  • straight ahead

These are useful direction chunks but the full direction system can come later.

Here and there | 这里与那里

  • come here
  • go there
  • The bus stop is here.
  • The station is there.

Next to, near, opposite | 基础地点关系

  • next to the bank
  • near the station
  • opposite the school

Do not expand to every spatial preposition at once. Focus on relationships you actually need.

Place phrase bank | 地点短语库

at home在家
at school在学校
at work在工作
at the station在车站
at the bus stop在公交站
in the bank在银行里面
near the school学校附近
next to the shop商店旁边

Travel-information phrase bank | 出行信息短语

  • bus number
  • train time
  • ticket price
  • bus stop
  • train station
  • platform number

Town map practice | 小地图练习

Draw or use a simple map with:

  • school
  • shop
  • bank
  • station
  • park

Ask:

  • Where is the bank?
  • What is next to the park?
  • Which road goes to the station?

Maps turn abstract place words into a visible network.

Real route practice | 真实路线词汇

Think about one route you really use:

home → bus stop → bus → station → school/work

Write or say the words in English. This creates a personal transport chain.

Personal places list | 你的个人地点词表

List ten places from your real week:

  • home
  • work
  • school
  • supermarket
  • restaurant
  • station
  • clinic

Do not copy fifty city words you never use.

Personal transport list | 你的个人交通词表

Choose only what you actually use or frequently see:

  • bus
  • train
  • car
  • taxi
  • bike
  • walk/on foot

Transport card model | 交通词卡

FieldExample
Wordbus
Chinese公交车
Phrasetake the bus
Placebus stop

Ask someone to say:

  • bus
  • train
  • taxi
  • station
  • ticket
  • platform

Point to pictures or choose the correct written word.

Number + transport listening | 数字与交通结合

Practise:

  • Bus 13
  • Bus 30
  • Platform 4
  • Ticket: $15

This combines Lesson 010 number listening with real travel vocabulary.

Mini reading | 超简单阅读

“I go to work by bus. The bus stop is near my home. I take Bus 12. I get off near the station. Sometimes I take the train. I buy a ticket at the station.”

Find:

  • two transport words
  • two place words
  • three travel phrases

Mini writing | 超简单写作

Write your real route:

  1. I go to ___.
  2. I go by ___.
  3. The ___ is near my home.
  4. I take ___.
  5. I get off at ___.

Mini speaking | 一分钟出行口语

“I go to work by train. The station is near my home. I walk to the station. I take the train. I get off at ___ station. Then I walk to work.”

Change the route next time. Do not memorise one frozen script.

Mini survival dialogue | 超简单出行对话

A: Excuse me. Where is the station?

B: It is near the bank.

A: Which bus?

B: Bus 10.

A: Thank you.

Extract the reusable chunks: excuse me, where is…, near…, which bus, thank you.

Do not learn route language without a map | 地点词最好连接地图

Place vocabulary is relational. A map makes near/far, left/right, station/shop visible.

Use simple maps before abstract route descriptions.

Regional vocabulary differences | 地区词汇差异

Transport English varies by country:

  • subway / underground / metro / MRT
  • lorry / truck
  • petrol / gas

A beginner should learn the local term first, then recognise important alternatives. Do not treat regional variety as “wrong English”.

British vs American place words | 英美常见差异

Examples:

  • flat / apartment
  • car park / parking lot

Again: learn one productive version first, recognise the other later.

Safety in real-world practice | 真实出行练习注意安全

Children should not practise transport vocabulary by navigating roads, stations or traffic alone. Use maps, photos, supervised routes and safe observation.

Seven-day places-and-transport plan | 七天地点交通训练

DayFocus
1home/school/work/shop
2station/bus stop/airport + where
3bus/train/car/taxi/bike
4take/by/on foot/ride/drive
5ticket/price/platform/time

7mixed retrieval + real route talk

First weak link check | 第一个卡点

SymptomLikely weak linkRepair
I know bus but say by foot.phrase linkon foot
I know take = 拿 only.verb networktake the bus / train / taxi

For parents and teachers | 给家长和老师

  • Use maps and photos.
  • Use the learner’s real route when appropriate.
  • Teach local transport vocabulary first.
  • Add regional alternatives later.
  • Keep safety central.
  • Ask learners to produce place questions.
  • Return to old route vocabulary after a delay.

Connect to deeper owners | 连接更深 owner 页面

This lesson stays at the very-simple vocabulary-entry layer.

Final check | 最终自检

Can you:

  • name ten places?
  • name six transport types?
  • use take the bus and by bus?
  • say on foot?
  • ask Where is the station?
  • ask Which bus?
  • ask How much is the ticket?
  • describe one real route?
  • recall the words after a week?

Final rule | 最后一条规则

Build a route, not a random list.

不要只背随机地点词。把它们连成一条真实路线。

Place → movement → transport → question → route → delayed recall.

地点 → 移动 → 交通 → 问题 → 路线 → 延时回忆。
