The question may contain fractions, an unfamiliar layout or a sign pattern not previously tested. The anomaly may expose a narrower dependency rather than a global loss of algebra.

The anomaly is useful because it tells us where the old model stopped predicting accurately.

One surprising answer is evidence, not a complete conclusion. Repeat or contrast the condition before rewriting the learner model.

  • Ask a nearby question with the same relationship.
  • Remove one unusual condition.

Teaching systems often notice failure more quickly than success. But unexpected independence is equally important.

  2. Separate observation from interpretation.
  3. Identify what changed in task, support or condition.
