It is to test the two survivors against the condition and the evidence in the stem. A generally true statement can still be the wrong answer if it does not explain this case.

Imagine a graph showing the amount of gas collected over time for two experimental set-ups. A learner notices one curve rises more steeply at first but both later level off at the same final amount. The learner becomes confused about “faster” versus “more”.
A useful marker is: “Steeper initially = faster rate; same plateau = same final amount. Question asks which?” When the learner returns, the graph has already been translated into two separate scientific claims. The next step is simply to match the requested job.

1. Read Your Marker Before the Whole Question
Your marker tells you what your earlier self already discovered. Use it to restore orientation. Then reread the relevant part of the question to verify that the marker is still accurate.
2. Rebuild Only the Necessary Scientific Model
Name the object, condition and evidence. Do not reopen every possible concept. If the question is about a changed surface condition affecting motion, you do not need to review the entire Energy theme.

What Not to Preserve
Preserving useful state does not mean preserving every earlier thought. Some thoughts should be deliberately discarded:
- a guessed chapter chosen only from one familiar word;
- a rejected MCQ option already contradicted by the evidence;
- an invented condition not supplied by the question;
- a memorised model sentence that does not fit the new set-up;
- a calculation or interpretation you have already shown to be inconsistent with the data.
A re-entry marker should preserve verified progress, not fossilise an error.
Observable Failure Signatures
- You reread the entire question three times but cannot say what you were previously stuck on.
- You repeat the same rejected idea after returning.
