This is a topic that is becoming popular in Singapore Secondary Composition Writing. Read extra information on social ethics, social groups, anti social behaviours and government initiatives to improve cohesiveness as background knowledge to this topic.
How a society becomes cohesive and how it can all break down. Define social cohesiveness and strategies that makes a society cohesive. Discuss the positives and negatives of social cohesiveness.
This topic is biased towards optimistic and positive rather than negative, so expect more plus than minus contents. But do include the minus for a balanced essay.
What are the levels of cohesiveness that defines social cohesion? At which point does it become acceptable? It is an abstract issue that will not entertain the concept of utopia.
Singapore’s internal conflicts- multiple ethnic groups, changing communities/technology, aging communities, youth finding their foothold, government directives.
Singapore’s external forces with international community and influx of new citizenry, importing new social communities. Use society constants that makes it cohesive and identify what is important to be a Singaporean. What makes Singapore Singaporean and a mark of identity for society to anchor itself. To be cohesive, our identity and sense of belonging must be berthed to a tangible foundation.
Divisive forces that could break down society. Anti social behaviors, subversive, socially inept individuals that creates downward pressure to undo social cohesiveness. Elitism versus Pluralism.
Discuss what the society can do to improve cohesiveness. Governmental interventions and directives to generate cohesion. Individual actions that can be taken, especially with the use of popular social media. Can the international society create/seed a social cohesive Singapore?
Discuss what positives comes from a social cohesive Singapore.
There are negatives too. Impact on our nation with each of these factors.
